Roger Federer’s Rolex Yacht-Master II: A Closer Look with In-depth Info

Roger Federer’s Rolex Yacht-Master II

Earlier this week, tennis legend Roger Federer attended the New York premiere of his new documentary, *Federer: The Last Twelve Days*. He wore a stunning Rolex Yacht-Master II ref. 226627. This watch is so light that when I first handled it in Geneva last year, I feared I might crush it and owe Rolex a check for $14,050 (plus tax).

A Titanium Marvel

This model isn’t Rolex’s first titanium watch. That honor goes to the 50mm Deepsea Challenge, designed for James Cameron’s deep-sea explorations. The Yacht-Master II, however, is more practical and exciting. It is 42mm wide, a comfortable size first seen on the wrist of sailing champion Sir Ben Ainslie in the fall of 2021. Unlike its prototype phase, it is now a full production model made from RLX grade 5 titanium and available for purchase.

Key Differences from the Submariner

The Yacht-Master II looks similar to the Rolex Submariner but has key differences. It has a 42mm titanium case compared to the Submariner’s 41mm. The Yacht-Master II features a bidirectional timing bezel with a sandblasted Cerachrom insert, unlike the Submariner’s unidirectional diving bezel. It also has a date window and a matching titanium Oyster bracelet with an Oysterlock folding clasp and Easylink comfort extension, which the Submariner lacks.

Designed for Sailing

Both the Submariner Date and the Yacht-Master II are powered by Rolex’s Caliber 3235 automatic movement with a 70-hour power reserve. While the Submariner is a dive watch with 300m water resistance, the Yacht-Master II is made for sailing with a 100m water resistance. It’s best suited for the deck of a high-tech racing boat.

Federer’s Perfect Match

Seeing Roger Federer wear the Yacht-Master II is both fun and notable. It matched perfectly with his dark suit at the New York premiere. Despite being a sporty piece, it looked great in a formal setting. Federer liked it so much that he wore it again at the London premiere, pairing it with a gray suit.

Federer’s Rolex Collection

Roger Federer, one of Rolex’s most iconic ambassadors, has been seen with almost all of their models. He has worn the Le Mans Daytona, the Sky-Dweller in precious metals, and many others. Though he often wears a dapper 1908 with a black tie, Rolex is famous for its sports watches, fitting for one of the world’s most renowned athletes. The only question left is: Will we see Federer with an extravagant Rolex Daytona “Leopard” next?

Cost of the Yacht-Master II

The Rolex Yacht-Master II ref. 226627 costs $14,050 (plus taxes).
