Netflix has started removing long-term subscribers from their Apple iTunes billing plans in certain countries and will now ask them to pay directly using a credit card or debit card.
Netflix has started informing customers in “some territories” that they will need to switch their plans, as first reported by Cord Cutter News. Netflix spokesperson informed that the adjustment impacts users on the basic plan who were utilizing an iTunes payment method, noting that this applies to both Canadian and US customers.
It has been a positive experience for those who joined before Netflix ceased accepting subscriptions via Apple’s payment system. Today on X, someone mentioned that they had maintained the streaming service’s previous $9.99 price for a long time.
Netflix stopped working with Apple Pay and didn’t inform me. Now I’m locked out of my $9.99 a month price I had paid for years and I had to get charged $31 until I get a refund through Apple. 🙃🫠 Love this!

Unfortunately, if you find yourself in that situation, you will now need to either agree to a price increase of more than $5 for the same plan you’ve had for years or pay $3 less and tolerate the ads. Perhaps you could consider reflecting on your connection with streaming services, as their prices appear to be increasing constantly.
This marks the conclusion of a lengthy saga. Apple introduced in-app subscription options for iPhones in 2010, but Netflix resisted adding them to its iOS app until 2015 due to its disagreement with Apple’s 30 percent commission. In late 2018, Netflix made the decision to stop paying Apple for in-app subscriptions and never turned back.
