Girl Victims of Pornography in Bangladesh
According to the National Girl Child Advocacy Forum’s research report, 52 girl children were victims of pornography in 2021. Nasima Akhter Joly, the Forum’s secretary, presented the report at the National Press Club on Sunday.
Between August 2020 and November 2021, 2,868 girls were victims of underage marriage, according to the report. Last year, 242 girl youngsters committed suicide in the country, according to the report. Among them, 61 committed suicide as a result of deception in love affairs, while 56 committed suicide as a result of a family feud, according to the survey.
In the year 2021, 116 girl youngsters were sexually harassed and tortured. In 2020, there were 104 similar instances.
Nasima Akhter Joly, who presented the findings, stated that 1,117 girl children had been raped. 155 of them had been the victims of gang rape. She went on to say that 45 people had died as a result of rape.
In the year 2020, 626 girls were raped.
272 girl children were killed in 2021 as a result of parental violence, rape, sexual harassment, and other factors.
Badiul Alam Majumder, president of the National Girl Child Advocacy Forum, noted that individuals who commit these crimes sometimes get away with government assistance. Many victims are unwilling to go to the police station to file a complaint. The number of cases of child marriage, as well as women’s and children’s repression, has skyrocketed.
The research report only covered incidences recorded in newspapers, according to Nobonita Chowdhury, Director of Gender, Justice, and Diversity (GJD) and Preventing Violence Against Women Initiative at Brac. The true figure is much higher.
Mainuddin Mainul, Country Director of GoodNeighbors Bangladesh, and Golam Kibria, Head of Education at Quality Assurance and Compliance-Educo Bangladesh, were among those who spoke at the event.
