“End of An Iconic Era”: Tributes Pour in for Soumitra Chatterjee
Legendary actor Soumitra Chatterjee acted in 14 films of Oscar winner Satyajit Ray, and 300 others. He made his debut in Ray’s film Apur Sansar in 1959. He first played the role of Feluda, the detective created by Satyajit Ray.
The veteran Bengali actor passed away on Sunday at the age of 85 after more than a month-long battle with multiple ailments. The Bengali film industry lost one of its greatest actors. His death left the film industry shattered. It is an “end of in iconic era” for the film industry.
People including stars like Anil Kapoor, Anupam Kher, Param Brata, Manoj Bajpayee, and Swastika Mukherjee expressed their deep shock at the demise of the legend and poured their hearts out on Twitter.

Swastika worked with Soumitra Chatterjee in films like “Rupe Tomay Bholabo Na”, “Hemanter Pakhi”, “Krishnakanter Will”.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, “Feluda’ is no more. ‘Apu’ said goodbye. Farewell, Soumitra (Da) Chatterjee. He has been a legend in his lifetime. International, Indian and Bengali cinema has lost a giant. We will miss him dearly. The film world in Bengal has been orphaned”.
