Face ID repairs on iPhone XS and subsequent phones may be possible without the need to replace the entire phone, according to authorized Apple service specialists.
According to MacRumors, Apple may soon offer Apple Stores and Apple certified service providers access to a new TrueDepth Camera service part, which includes Face ID and front camera modules, to Apple Stores and Apple authorized service providers. As a result, instead of replacing a phone with Face ID problems, shops and authorized providers will provide same-unit repairs.
According to an internal memo from Apple, the measure will cut Apple’s carbon footprint by reducing the amount of whole-unit repairs. If this happens, owners of iPhone XS and newer models won’t have to set up a new phone and risk losing data due of a Face ID issue.
It’s unclear when this new repair procedure will go into effect. Technicians will obtain training and paperwork at a later period, according to the business.
The announcement comes just a few months after Apple unveiled its new Self Service Repair program, which might make fixes even easier. Apple will use the program to teach customers how to repair their smartphones at home while also providing them the necessary parts and tools. Customers will also earn credit for recycling their spent parts when they return them after repairing their devices.
Apple announced that the Self Service Repair program would begin in the United States early this year and subsequently expand to other nations.
