According to ESPN’s broadcast, Colorado’s two-way standout Travis Hunter was rushed to a local hospital during the Buffaloes’ 43-35 victory over rival Colorado State on Saturday night. Hunter, who plays wide receiver and cornerback for the No. 18 Buffs, made an early impression on the Heisman Trophy race with his performance in the season’s first two games after transferring from Jackson State.
Hunter, who was playing wide receiver, was struck hard by Colorado State safety Henry Blackburn during the first quarter of the game and had to be helped off the field by trainers. Blackburn received an unneeded roughness penalty. Hunter returned to the game after the hit and made a tackle in the second quarter before exiting for good.
It was unclear whether Blackburn’s hit was to blame for Hunter’s exit, but it provided an early flashpoint in a battle that was already tense. After the hit in Hunter’s defense, CU quarterback Shedeur Sanders confronted Blackburn.
Hunter was listed as the No. 1 overall talent in the Class of 2022 and startled the college football world by picking Jackson State and Sanders over a long-standing commitment to Florida State.
