Ming-Chi Kuo, a well-known Apple analyst, says that the new AirPods Pro 2 with a USB Type-C charging port could come out in late 2023.
To remind you, the second-generation AirPods Pro with a Lightning charging case came out in September 2022. The company is now working on a new version of the wireless earphones that will charge with USB Type-C.
It seems likely that these are the AirPods Pro 2 with a USB-C connector, and they won’t be widely available until the second or third quarter of 2019. “By the way, it looks like Apple has no plans to make USB-C versions of the AirPods 2 and 3 right now,” Kuo tweeted. Kuo says that clues about new AirPods found in the iOS 16.4 Release Candidate point to the AirPods Pro with USB-C.
The new AirPods Pro 2 might be on the market by the end of the third quarter of 2023.
The current Apple AirPods Pro charging case has a built-in speaker that can help users find it if they lose it. It has extra support for the Apple Watch charger and an U1 chip for the device’s Find My support.
Apple has been under intense pressure to switch to USB Type-C connections from its proprietary lightning connector for its iPhones, AirPods, and other products. Apple has already switched the Siri Remote for the Apple TV from Lightning to USB-C, so it makes sense for them to do the same with the AirPods.
It is thought that Apple will add USB-C charging to the iPhone 15 series in 2023. Apple, which is based in Cupertino, is likely to add a custom IC chip to its USB-C port. This will be similar to how the Lightning port authenticates users.
Macrumours has said in the past, based on a rumor from Weibo, that Apple has made its own version of the USB Type-C port for the iPhone 15. The person who leaked the information on Weibo says they are an expert in integrated circuits and have worked on Intel’s Pentium processors for 25 years.
In 2012, Apple made Lightning ports that were made by Apple and were MFi-certified. These connectors have a small IC inside that verifies the parts that are being connected.
