Google Releases New AI Features to Gmail and Docs

Google AI Features for Gmail and Docs

Listen to the Podcast:

Google has revealed that Documents and Gmail will soon include capabilities powered by artificial intelligence.

The company claims that it is now enabling Workspace users to take advantage of generative AI’s potential to create, connect, and collaborate.

It said that trusted testers will be the first to use the AI-powered writing tool.

The company said that smart compose and smart reply, summaries for Docs, making users look more professional in meetings and staying protected from malware and phishing assaults are all benefits of AI that are helping its three billion users save time.

According to Johanna Wright, vice president of product at Google Workspace, “Generative AI advancements are enabling us to execute on this objective in new ways.” Workspace’s mission is to truly connect people so they can create, innovate, and thrive together.

“Today, we’re presenting our bigger vision for how Workspace will develop to include AI as a collaborative partner that is always available to help you achieve your goals, across Gmail, Docs, Slides, Sheets, Meet, and Chat,” the company said in a statement.

As we set out on this new path, we will gradually introduce these new generative AI experiences to reliable testers throughout the year before making them accessible to the general public.

The newly introduced AI feature, according to Wright, will enable users to draft, reply, summarize, and prioritize their Gmail messages; brainstorm, proofread, write, and rewrite in Docs; bring their creative visions to life with automatically generated images, audio, and video in Slides; and transform their raw data into insights and analysis via auto-completion, formula generation, and contextual categorization in Sheets.

It was also mentioned that users would be able to create new backgrounds, take notes, and enable workflows in Chat.

“AI-based capabilities get better with human feedback,” continued Wright.

This month, we will begin introducing these new experiences through our reliable testing program, with an initial focus on English in the United States.

The experiences will then be improved and iterated upon before being made widely available to consumers, small businesses, organizations, and educational institutions in more nations and languages.
