Xiaomi’s First EV, the SU7, Sells Out in Just 24 Hours for 2024!

the SU7

In an unprecedented move that has sent shockwaves through the automotive industry, Chinese consumer electronics powerhouse Xiaomi has made a triumphant entry into the electric vehicle market with its first-ever car, the highly anticipated SU7. This sleek and innovative battery-powered sedan, designed to go head-to-head with the Tesla Model 3, has taken China by storm, amassing an astounding 90,000 preorders within a single day of its launch last Thursday.

The SU7’s instant popularity was nothing short of remarkable, with eager customers flocking to Xiaomi’s website to secure their place in line. An impressive 10,000 people placed their orders within the first four minutes of the order form going live, a testament to the palpable excitement surrounding the launch. The momentum continued to build at a breakneck pace, with 50,000 orders accumulating in just 27 minutes. By the end of the day, Xiaomi had received a staggering 90,000 preorders, solidifying the SU7’s status as a force to be reckoned with in the highly competitive Chinese EV market.

However, the overwhelming demand has come with its own set of challenges. Customers who placed a 5,000-yuan ($850) deposit to secure their SU7 will have to exercise patience, as delivery times are expected to stretch up to seven months, according to a report from Reuters. The news agency checked the delivery timelines on Xiaomi’s car app and found that the top-of-the-line Max model, which carries a price tag of 299,900 yuan ($41,500), has a delivery window of 27 to 30 weeks, potentially pushing customer deliveries into the next year.

The entry-level Standard version of the SU7, with a starting price of 215,900 yuan ($29,900), and the mid-range Pro version, priced at 245,000 yuan ($33,990), are expected to have slightly shorter waiting periods, ranging between 18 and 21 weeks. Despite the prolonged delivery times, customer enthusiasm remains high, a clear indication of the trust and excitement surrounding Xiaomi’s bold foray into the EV space.

Under the hood, the SU7 is powered by cutting-edge electric motors developed in-house by Xiaomi’s talented engineering team. Customers can choose between rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations, depending on their preferred trim level. The car is built on an advanced 800-volt architecture, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency. To ensure an impressive driving range of up to 515 miles (830 kilometers) on the CLTC procedure, Xiaomi has partnered with industry leaders CATL and BYD to source high-voltage batteries.

Production of the SU7 will be handled by China’s BAIC at a state-of-the-art factory in Beijing. The initial phase of the facility boasts a production capacity of 150,000 vehicles per year, with plans to expand to 300,000 vehicles per year in the second phase, demonstrating Xiaomi’s long-term commitment to the EV market.

Despite being priced approximately $4,000 lower than the Tesla Model 3 in China, the Xiaomi SU7 offers a host of impressive features that set it apart from the competition. With a longer driving range, a plethora of screens inside the cabin, a cutting-edge head-up display, and a premium interior that seamlessly integrates with Xiaomi’s vast ecosystem of consumer products, the SU7 presents a compelling package for discerning Chinese buyers.

While there are undoubtedly cheaper options available in the market, such as the Zeekr 007, Xiaomi’s successful launch and the overwhelming response to the SU7 serve as a testament to the company’s marketing prowess and ability to capture the hearts and minds of consumers in what is arguably the most competitive EV market in the world. As Xiaomi continues to blaze a trail in the automotive industry, all eyes will be on the SU7 as it sets a new benchmark for innovation, performance, and customer enthusiasm in the rapidly evolving world of electric vehicles.
