A recent survey has delivered a dire warning that billions of people across the globe expect to be displaced from their homes in the next 25 years due to the severe impacts of climate change.
The impacts of a warming world, ranging from deadly floods and wildfires to landslides, are expected to render many areas unlivable.
According to the survey conducted by Ipsos between September 22 and October 6 across 31 countries, 38% of the over 24,000 respondents stated they would likely be forced to migrate in the next 25 years owing to climate change ramifications.
Citizens of Turkey expressed the greatest apprehension regarding climate displacement, with 68% stating they anticipate losing their homesteads because of climate change impacts in the next quarter century.
Brazil and India followed close behind at 61% and 57%, respectively. Experts analyzed the representative survey to equate such percentages to over 2 billion individuals globally expecting climate-induced migration.
Meanwhile, the Netherlands was the least concerned among the 31 nations surveyed, with only 19% of Dutch participants foreseeing displacement from climate factors in the next 25 years.
