Knicks’ Bojan Bogdanovic is out for the season after foot surgery.
The New York Knicks have been dealt a significant blow in their ongoing playoff series against the Philadelphia 76ers, as forward Bojan Bogdanovic will miss the remainder of the season due to left foot surgery.
The Injury
Bogdanovic, who recently turned 35, had already been dealing with a wrist issue before sustaining the foot injury in Game 4 against the 76ers. The unfortunate incident occurred almost immediately after he checked into the game at the start of the second quarter.
While chasing a loose ball, Bogdanovic got tangled up with Philadelphia’s Nicolas Batum, resulting in him hitting the ground in visible pain. He slowly limped off the court and was ruled out shortly after, with the team later announcing the need for season-ending surgery.
Trade Deadline Acquisition
Bogdanovic was acquired by the Knicks from the Detroit Pistons at the trade deadline, along with Alec Burks, to provide depth and experience for the team’s playoff push. Despite coming off the bench, the veteran forward has played a crucial role throughout the first four games of the series against the 76ers.
His impact was particularly evident in Game 1, where he drained a pair of critical three-pointers in the fourth quarter to help the Knicks secure victory at Madison Square Garden.
Contract Situation
Bogdanovic’s current contract with the Knicks includes a $19 million salary for next season, with $2 million guaranteed. However, the full amount becomes guaranteed if he remains on the roster as of June 28th.
The Knicks have been plagued by injuries throughout their playoff run, with All-Star forward Julius Randle already ruled out for the remainder of the season due to shoulder surgery.
Additionally, Mitchell Robinson’s availability for Game 5 remains questionable due to an ankle injury.
Despite the adversities, the Knicks have an opportunity to advance to the second round of the playoffs for the first time since 2000 with a win in Game 5. A victory at Madison Square Garden would also mark the team’s first home-court series win since 1999.
As the Knicks continue their pursuit of playoff success, they will undoubtedly feel the absence of Bogdanovic’s veteran presence and clutch shooting.
However, the team’s depth and resilience will be put to the test as they navigate the remainder of this challenging playoff series.
