Guilty Gear Strive: Switch Gets Lucy DLC and Update in Fall 2025

guilty gear strive switch dlc update fall 2025

Arc System Works, the developer behind the popular anime fighting game Guilty Gear Strive, has revealed the fourth playable character in its Season Pass 4 lineup: Lucy, the breakout star from the hit Netflix anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. This marks one of the most high-profile crossovers in the series so far and is generating major excitement among both Guilty Gear fans and anime lovers.

Lucy will officially join the roster on August 21, 2025, for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms. The Nintendo Switch version, which launched earlier this year, is scheduled to receive this and other Season 4 content in Fall 2025.

Season Pass 4 Lineup: A Mix of Icons and Newcomers

Season Pass 4 continues Arc System Works’ tradition of blending classic characters with brand-new additions. It includes four playable fighters:

  • Queen Dizzy – An evolved version of the beloved character Dizzy from earlier entries

  • Venom – A returning assassin with a strategic, billiard-inspired fighting style

  • Unika – A completely original character introduced for this season

  • Lucy – The high-speed netrunner from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, adapted for Guilty Gear’s combat system

In addition to the four fighters, the Season Pass also includes:

  • Two new battle stages that enhance the game’s visual variety and fighting environments

  • Additional character color palettes, including exclusive ones not available separately

  • Digital Figure mode content, allowing players to pose characters and create custom scenes

This season marks the beginning of a more aggressive content strategy from Arc System Works, tapping into cross-media appeal by bringing in characters from outside the Guilty Gear universe.

EVO 2025 Reveal: Lucy Steals the Spotlight

The full reveal of Lucy took place during EVO 2025, the world’s largest and most prestigious fighting game tournament. The gameplay trailer highlighted Lucy’s fast, acrobatic moves and visual effects inspired by the Cyberpunk anime’s art style.

Her moveset features teleportation, drone support, rapid combos, and a focus on pressure and mobility. Arc System Works has carefully adapted her cyberpunk aesthetics to fit the Guilty Gear universe while retaining key traits from her anime appearance, such as her iconic monowire weapon and glowing red optics.

Nintendo Switch Version Update: Long-Awaited Fall Patch

The Nintendo Switch version of Guilty Gear Strive, released earlier in 2025, has lagged behind other platforms in terms of content updates. However, Arc System Works has now confirmed a comprehensive update is coming this Fall 2025, which will synchronize the Switch edition with the most recent version available on other platforms.

This patch is expected to be significant in scope and will include:

  • Playable characters Lucy, Venom, and Unika

  • Major balance adjustments affecting damage output, frame data, and character viability

  • Ranked Match implementation, allowing players to compete in structured online play

  • Digital Figure mode for creating custom scenes and collecting 3D poses

  • User interface improvements, especially related to readability in multiple languages

One of the primary reasons for the delay on the Switch version has been the technical constraints of the hardware. Each DLC character undergoes a separate optimization phase to ensure they function smoothly within the portable system’s capabilities. This includes refining animations, reducing loading times, and optimizing the frame rate.

28 Characters Already Included in the Switch Edition

28 Characters Already Included in the Switch Edition

Despite its delayed updates, the Nintendo Switch version of Guilty Gear Strive is far from barebones. It already includes:

  • All characters from the base game

  • Complete content from Seasons 1, 2, and 3, offering a total of 28 playable fighters

  • Core gameplay modes like Arcade, Story, Survival, Training, and Mission

  • Versus Mode for local multiplayer

  • Online features, though initially limited in functionality compared to other platforms

With the upcoming patch, Switch players will finally be able to access Ranked Matches and use newly introduced characters, bringing them up to date with the most current Guilty Gear Strive experience.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and Lucy’s Cross-Platform Impact

Lucy, originally introduced in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners—a 10-episode anime by Studio Trigger based on CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077—became an instant fan-favorite due to her cool demeanor, tragic backstory, and dynamic visual design. The anime won widespread acclaim for its mature storytelling and bold animation.

Her transition into a fast-paced fighting game like Guilty Gear is a technical and artistic achievement, symbolizing how gaming franchises are increasingly collaborating with other entertainment mediums to broaden their appeal.

This is not the first time Arc System Works has embraced crossover potential. The BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle game previously featured fighters from RWBY, Persona 4 Arena, and Under Night In-Birth. Lucy’s arrival in Guilty Gear Strive is another step toward integrating culturally impactful characters from across the media landscape.

Commitment to Continuous Support and Fan Feedback

Arc System Works has acknowledged delays in content rollout, especially for the Nintendo Switch version, and has publicly committed to improving transparency and patch parity across all platforms. The studio’s roadmap includes more technical updates, ongoing character balancing based on tournament data, and improvements to network code.

This approach is especially important as Guilty Gear Strive continues to attract competitive players worldwide and builds a lasting legacy within the fighting game genre.

A New Era for Guilty Gear Strive

With Lucy joining the roster and a major update set to bring the Switch version in line with its console and PC counterparts, Guilty Gear Strive is entering a bold new phase. The inclusion of cross-media characters, fan-driven improvements, and competitive infrastructure signals that Arc System Works is not only listening to its community but also evolving the game to meet a global standard.

Switch players will no longer be left behind, and the Fall 2025 patch is set to deliver one of the most robust updates in the game’s history.
