Happy Birthday Sachin Tendulkar is a phrase that resonates across borders, but for me, it is a bridge to the boy I used to be. It’s funny how a single date can bring your whole childhood rushing back. Whenever April 24th comes around, I don’t just see another day on the calendar. Instead, I am instantly taken back to my hometown of Dupchanchia, Bogura. I can clearly see myself as an eight-year-old boy, sitting on the living room floor in the quiet town where I was born and raised. My eyes are glued to the screen, looking up with pure wonder at our family’s proudest possession: a big, heavy, 20-inch Japanese National television set.
Back in the nineties, the world was changing fast. But through all that change, one beautiful thing stayed the same and brought everyone together. We didn’t just watch cricket back then; we lived it. And my whole world revolved around one man walking out to the pitch with a bat in his hand.
Today, as Sachin Tendulkar turns 53, the world is celebrating the ‘God of Cricket’ and the amazing records he set. But for me, today is about saying a huge thank you to the man who was my very first inspiration in life.
Happy Birthday Sachin Tendulkar: A Guide for Life, On and Off the Field
People often ask where I get my drive. In truth, my foundation for never giving up was built by four masters: my parents and grandfather, who taught me the value of discipline, and Sachin, who showed me how to carry that discipline under the weight of a nation’s expectations. Seeing him carry the hopes of a billion people, take the hardest hits, and reply not with anger, but with a perfect shot, changed how my young mind worked.
By following his journey, his hard work, and his calm nature under pressure, I found a guide for my own life. Whenever I face tough times building my business, leading my team, or just going about my daily life as a writer, journalist and entrepreneur, I think back to how calm he was on the field. He taught me that you can aim for the absolute top and still stay humble. Following his values quietly shaped me into the Sukanta I am today.
One Lifelong Dream
Beyond his 100 centuries and the cheering crowds, it is his good heart that amazes me the most. He is, without a doubt, the greatest and most down-to-earth human being I have ever seen. I have never seen anyone like him anywhere in the world—someone who reached the stars but always kept his feet firmly on the ground.
Ever since I was that amazed eight-year-old boy, I have kept one big dream in my heart. It isn’t to get an autograph or a picture. My lifelong dream is simply to meet him just once, stand in front of him, and bow down out of pure respect. I just want to say thank you, not just for the great memories, but for being the guiding light of my life.
In the quiet corners of my heart, that little boy from Dupchanchia is still there, wide eyed and full of dreams. He is the one who reminds me that excellence is a marathon, not a sprint, and that character is built in the silence between the cheers. When the world feels too loud or the pressures of leadership weigh heavy, I close my eyes and see that straight drive, a symbol of grace under fire. It is a debt of gratitude I can never truly repay. You didn’t just play a sport; you gave a young boy the courage to believe he could conquer his own world.
Happy 53rd Birthday, Master Blaster. Thank you for making my childhood magical and for giving me the inspiration to build my own future.
