Miss Universe Jamaica Falls Off Stage, Taken Out on Stretcher

A shocking moment unfolded during the Miss Universe 2025 preliminary competition on November 19 in Thailand, when Dr. Gabrielle Henry — Miss Universe Jamaica 2025 — fell off the stage during the evening gown round and had to be taken out of the venue on a stretcher. The incident, which was captured in multiple audience videos circulating on social media, has raised concerns about contestant safety, the intense pressure of international pageantry, and the growing controversies surrounding this year’s Miss Universe competition.

Dr. Henry, dressed in a striking orange gown and high heels, was making her way across the stage when she appeared to misjudge the edge, missing a step and plunging off the platform. The sound of gasps and shouts from the audience immediately filled the hall. Event staff quickly rushed to her aid, but she remained on the ground until medical personnel arrived and transported her out of the competition area for urgent evaluation.

Shortly after midnight local time, Raul Rocha, the owner of the Miss Universe Organization, posted an update on Instagram following a visit to the hospital where Henry was admitted. He assured the Miss Universe community that despite the severity of the fall, she suffered no broken bones and was being attended to by medical professionals. He added that he had been with Henry and her family during the hospital visit and that doctors were continuing to monitor her condition.

The Miss Universe Jamaica Organization issued its own detailed statement confirming that Dr. Henry was taken to Paolo Rangsit Hospital in Bangkok. The organization emphasized that while she was not facing any life-threatening injuries, doctors were conducting a series of tests to ensure she made a full recovery. Their message attempted to reassure supporters who had been anxiously awaiting news following the widespread video clips of the fall.

Before the accident, Henry had shared glimpses of her day on Instagram Stories — clips of her riding on the bus to the venue, smiling during her glam session, and expressing excitement for the preliminary rounds. For many fans, witnessing the abrupt shift from those cheerful moments to a stretcher scene added emotional weight to the incident.

The preliminary night featured several key segments: the swimsuit round, the national costume competition, and the evening gown presentation. In an unexpected pattern of mishaps, another contestant — Miss Great Britain, Danielle Latimer — also experienced a fall earlier in the evening during the national costume portion. Latimer was dressed in an elaborate outfit inspired by Eliza Doolittle from My Fair Lady, and the outfit’s size and embellishments may have contributed to her slip. Fortunately, she was able to stand up, regain composure, and finish the segment without requiring medical assistance. Afterward, she posted light-hearted updates to her followers, joking about the moment and praising fellow contestants for their kindness, including Miss Jamaica, who had offered supportive words before Henry’s own accident occurred.

The stage incidents come at a time when the Miss Universe pageant is already engulfed in controversy. Just weeks before the preliminaries, the organization faced backlash after a viral livestream showed pageant executive Nawat Itsaragrisil speaking harshly to Miss Mexico, Fatima Bosch, during a meeting. The comments sparked outrage among contestants, leading several to walk out in protest. The incident ignited discussions about professionalism, respect, and contestant treatment within the organization.

Tensions escalated further when three judges resigned from the Miss Universe panel in the days leading up to the event. Omar Harfouch, one of the judges, publicly announced his withdrawal, claiming that an unsanctioned “impromptu jury” had been formed to select 30 finalists even before contestants stepped on stage for preliminaries. According to his account, this process undermined the legitimacy of the competition and violated established protocols. Two other judges — Claude Makélélé and Princess Camilla di Borbone delle Due Sicilie, who served as president of the selection committee — subsequently left their positions as well.

These resignations added to the growing unease around transparency and fairness within the Miss Universe system. Although the organization denied Harfouch’s allegations and insisted that proper judging procedures were in place, the departures of multiple judges in such a short time frame only fueled ongoing skepticism among fans, contestants, and pageant observers.

Taken together, Dr. Henry’s fall, the earlier slip by Miss Great Britain, and the controversies involving leadership and judging have created a turbulent atmosphere for what is traditionally a highly polished and meticulously controlled event. Competitors from 136 countries are participating in this year’s competition, making the stakes even higher and the scrutiny more intense than in previous years.

As for Dr. Gabrielle Henry, many around the world are hoping for her swift recovery. Her role as Miss Universe Jamaica 2025 has already garnered admiration — she is a medical doctor and advocate for community health, known for her dedication and poise. Whether she will return to the stage for the finals remains uncertain, but her safety and well-being remain the priority for her team, the organization, and supporters globally.

With the Miss Universe finals scheduled in the coming days, all eyes are now on the event to see how organizers address both the physical safety concerns on stage and the ongoing controversies behind the scenes. The fall has become a defining moment not only for Miss Jamaica’s journey but also for a pageant season marked by tension, unexpected incidents, and calls for greater transparency.
