Lizzo Explains Her ‘I Quit’ Remark: Staying True to Herself

I Quit

In a heartfelt video posted on Tuesday (April 2), Grammy-winning singer Lizzo addressed the recent confusion surrounding her “I Quit” Instagram post, which had left many fans speculating about her future in the music industry. The “Truth Hurts” hitmaker clarified that she’s not stepping away from her passion for creating music or connecting with her dedicated fanbase, but rather, she’s quitting “giving any negative energy attention.”

Lizzo’s original post, shared on March 29, expressed her growing frustration with being “dragged by everyone in my life and on the Internet.” The singer opened up about the constant lies being told about her for “clout & views” and the disrespect she faces due to her appearance and character. “I’m getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the Internet,” she wrote, adding that all she wants is to “make music, make people happy and help the world be a little better than how I found it.”

The singer’s candid post came amidst ongoing scrutiny she has faced in recent months, particularly following a harassment lawsuit filed by three of her former tour dancers in August 2022. The lawsuit alleged sexual misconduct and hostile work conditions, accusations that Lizzo has vehemently denied, calling them “sensationalized stories” in a statement released shortly after the news broke.

In her latest video, Lizzo addressed the negative voices that seem to overshadow the positive ones, acknowledging that she’s not alone in this struggle. “I know I’m not alone,” she said, facing the camera in a stunning aquamarine bodysuit. “In no way, shape or form am I the only person who is experiencing that negative voice that seems to be louder than the positive.”

Despite the challenges she faces, Lizzo emphasized her determination to keep moving forward and remaining true to herself. “I’m going to keep moving forward; I’m going to keep being me,” she declared, her voice filled with emotion.

The singer’s attorney has also responded to the recent statement made by the plaintiff’s attorney, Ron Zambrano, who criticized Lizzo for claiming to be bullied on the internet and suggested that she should take “an honest look at herself.” Lizzo’s lawyer countered the statement, highlighting the dismissed portions of the case and the support of 18 independent witnesses. “With nearly half his case dismissed, 18 independent witnesses siding with Lizzo and no settlement on the way to get him his tasty contingency fee, Ron has started making wild personal attacks that have absolutely nothing to do with the clients who he is supposedly representing,” the attorney stated.

As Lizzo continues to navigate the challenges that come with fame and the negativity that often accompanies it, she remains focused on spreading joy through her music and maintaining a strong connection with her fans. In her video, the singer expressed heartfelt gratitude for the love and support she has received, getting choked up as she said, “I just want to say thank you. The love that I’ve received means more than you know.”

Lizzo’s message serves as a reminder that, even in the face of adversity and criticism, it’s essential to focus on the positive aspects of life and the things that truly matter. As she continues to create music that uplifts and inspires, Lizzo’s resilience and determination to rise above negativity serve as an inspiration to her fans and the music community at large.
