Who is Twitter’s New CEO Parag Agrawal? Know Here
Parag Agrawal, Twitter’s Chief Technology Officer, is now the company’s Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Jack Dorsey. According to Reuters, Dorsey will step down from his position, and the company’s board has been planning for his exit since last year.
On March 8, 2018, Agrawal, a graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, was named Twitter’s Chief Technology Officer. He took over for Adam Messinger, who stepped down in December 2016. Internally, Agrawal’s appointment was announced in October 2017.
As CTO, Agrawal has been in charge of the company’s technical strategy as well as machine learning and artificial intelligence. He has spearheaded efforts to scale Twitter Ads infrastructure and re-accelerate user growth by increasing home timeline relevance since joining Twitter eleven years ago.
After receiving his PhD in Computer Science from Stanford University, Agrawal joined Twitter as a Distinguished Software Engineer in October 2011. He worked as a research intern for Microsoft, Yahoo!, and AT&T Labs while at Stanford.
He worked on large-scale data management research with collaborators at Microsoft Research, Yahoo! Research, and AT&T Labs before joining Twitter. Agrawal earned a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stanford University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT-Bombay in 2005.
New Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal praised Dorsey for his continuous guidance and friendship on Twitter. He also expressed gratitude to the entire team for their faith and support.

“Our mission has never been more vital. Our culture and people are unlike anything else on the planet. “What we can achieve together is limitless,” Agrawal wrote in a note posted to his Twitter account.
“At tomorrow’s all-hands meeting, we’ll have plenty of time for Q&A and debate,” he added.
“Right now, the world is watching us even more than before. Many people will have many different perspectives and opinions on today’s news. It’s because they care about Twitter and our future, and it’s an indication that what we’re doing here is important. “Let’s demonstrate Twitter’s full potential to the rest of the globe,” Agrawal remarked.
Agrawal joins a roster of Indian-American IT titans that includes Arvind Krishna, chairman and CEO of IBM, Satya Nadella, Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, and Shantanu Narayen, chairman, president, and CEO of Adobe.
The appointment of Agrawal comes at a time when Twitter is aggressively pursuing expansion. The company declared earlier this year that by the end of 2023, it aims to have 315 million monetizable daily active users and to have more than doubled its annual income.
