OpenAI’s Plan to Block Elon Musk’s Takeover Bid Revealed

OpenAI plan elon musk takeover

OpenAI, the artificial intelligence company behind ChatGPT, is reportedly considering a new strategy to prevent a potential takeover by billionaire Elon Musk.

According to a report by media, the company is exploring the idea of granting special voting rights to its non-profit board. This move could help OpenAI’s directors maintain control as the organization transitions to a for-profit model.

The discussions, reportedly led by CEO Sam Altman and board members, aim to safeguard the company’s governance amid Musk’s takeover attempt. While OpenAI has not officially confirmed this plan, sources claim that these measures could protect the organization from hostile acquisition efforts in the future.

Musk’s Takeover Attempt and OpenAI’s Rejection

Elon Musk, backed by a group of investors, recently made a $97.4 billion bid to acquire OpenAI’s non-profit governing body. His goal was to stop OpenAI from moving toward a profit-driven model as it seeks more funding to compete in the AI industry. However, OpenAI’s board unanimously rejected the offer, arguing that the proposal was not in the best interest of the organization.

Following this, OpenAI reaffirmed its commitment to its original mission of developing AI responsibly. Tensions between Musk and OpenAI have continued to escalate, with the AI company’s leadership standing firm against external control.

Musk’s Criticism and Legal Battles

After OpenAI chairman Bret Taylor stated that the company was not for sale, Musk responded aggressively on social media. He called Taylor a “scammer” and accused him of mismanaging a startup while channeling funds into OpenAI.

Court filings also revealed that Musk’s legal team was willing to withdraw the bid if OpenAI agreed to remain a non-profit. However, OpenAI’s legal representatives dismissed this as an attempt to weaken a competitor rather than a genuine concern for the company’s mission.

What’s Next for OpenAI?

As OpenAI continues to grow, the company is expected to introduce governance measures that prevent external influence while securing funding for its AI advancements. The reported voting rights strategy, if implemented, could strengthen the board’s control and limit the influence of outside investors, including Musk.

For now, the AI race remains heated, with OpenAI, Microsoft, and other tech giants competing to lead in artificial intelligence innovation. Whether Musk will make another attempt to take over OpenAI or focus on his own AI ventures remains to be seen.
