Microsoft Refuses to Pay for Twitter API, Elon Musk Responds
Listen to the Podcast:
Microsoft announced that Twitter will no longer be part of its advertising platform as of April 25. The tech giant explained that cross-platform smart campaigns will no longer be supported on the microblogging site.
The news took users by surprise last night, as they will not be able to access Twitter through their Microsoft Digital Marketing Center social media management tool.
That is, they will not be able to manage or schedule any content for Twitter. The reason for this decision by Microsoft came a few weeks after the Bluebird social network announced that it would charge $42,000 per month for the use of its API.
It is worth mentioning that although the company could pay that monthly fee without problem, the issue goes further, such as disagreeing with Elon Musk‘s new policy of paying for its API.
For his part, Elon Musk has not remained silent and has said through his Twitter account that he would take legal action against Microsoft. “They illegally trained using data from Twitter. Judgment time,” he tweeted.

By this, he refers to Microsoft’s license agreement with OpenAI, which has been training its artificial intelligence models with information from the Internet from different sources. In fact, a few weeks ago, some businessmen, including Elon Musk, expressed a “pause” in the development of this technology in an open letter: “Powerful artificial intelligence systems should only be developed when we are sure that their effects will be positive and that their risks are controllable,”, the letter reports.
Finally, the software developer explained that they will continue to be available compared to other platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
