Google has pledged to address the issue of “low-quality” spam content that shows up on its search engine.
The company has introduced new strategies to combat spammers, such as enhancing quality ranking through algorithmic improvements and implementing more spam policies.
Google announced on Tuesday that changes are being made to decrease unoriginal content in search results and maintain the delivery of useful content while connecting people with high-quality websites.
Google plans to enhance its core ranking systems to determine which web pages are most beneficial to users, building on previous efforts. Furthermore, the company plans to enhance its current spam-fighting systems by introducing new measures to address manipulated search rankings, expired domain abuse, and site reputation abuse. This involves examining websites that might contain content considered “low-quality” from third-party hosts. According to Google, this type of content may confuse or mislead visitors with different expectations for the content on those websites.
In a study earlier this year, German researchers highlighted that Google continues to face challenges with SEO spam, even though there have been some improvements during their research. The study also highlighted the existence of AI-generated spam, which may further deteriorate search results. According to a Google spokesperson who spoke to Mashable, the study does not accurately represent the overall quality and helpfulness of Search for the billions of queries.
