Big Little Lies Season 3 Confirmed: Nicole Kidman Says Filming is Fast-Track

Big Little Lies Season 3

Nicole Kidman and her “Big Little Lies” co-star Reese Witherspoon recently hinted at a potential third season of their Emmy-winning HBO series during a Vanity Fair video interview.

Kidman has previously mentioned that “Big Little Lies” Season 3 is in the works, and Witherspoon playfully confirmed, saying, “This one has already said too much.”

Kidman acknowledged her excitement about the new season, saying, “We need to shut up. There’s a whole thing about how you should never talk about something until you’ve done it because if you talk about doing it, then it’s the dopamine hit of doing it, and you feel like you’ve done it. It’s a scientific study.”

Despite this, she couldn’t resist sharing updates: “We’re moving fast and furious. Liane is delivering the book. We’re in good shape.”

Persistent Texting and Family Influence

In a January interview with Variety, Kidman revealed that she and Witherspoon were “texting every day” about the third season.

Kidman also shared with Elle magazine in March that her daughter, Sunday Rose, played a significant role in pushing for the new season.

Sunday, after watching both previous seasons, insisted on another one, even providing critiques of her mother’s character, Celeste.

Plot Developments and Character Critiques

Kidman’s character, Celeste, was central to the dramatic arcs of the previous seasons. In the second season, Celeste and her friends grapple with keeping the truth about her husband’s death from his mother, Mary Louise.

Sunday Rose’s feedback on Celeste’s character development shows the series’ impact on younger viewers and their engagement with the storylines.

HBO’s Stance and Cast Coordination

HBO and Max content chairman/CEO Casey Bloys expressed enthusiasm for a third season. “Where you have all these stars, you’ve got to get their schedules in line, we have to get it written,” Bloys told Variety. “So, there’s a lot that needs to be done. It’s very early stages right now.

The entire cast is doing shows and movies, and everybody’s very busy. But it’s an exceptional group. They love working together. And when they land on an idea, I believe they will make it happen.”

Reuniting the Star-Studded Cast

In their Vanity Fair interview, Kidman and Witherspoon discussed the ongoing coordination with the rest of the cast.

Witherspoon mentioned receiving calls from Laura Dern, Zoë Kravitz, and Shailene Woodley, all eager to confirm the news.

This enthusiasm from the cast indicates their willingness to return and continue the story.

The Influence of Liane Moriarty

Liane Moriarty, the author of the original “Big Little Lies” book, is again contributing to the source material for the third season.

Kidman confirmed, “We’re moving fast and furious, and Liane is delivering the book. Yeah, and we’re in good shape.” Moriarty’s involvement promises continuity and depth in the upcoming season’s storylines.

Tribute to Jean-Marc Vallée

One notable absence will be director Jean-Marc Vallée, who passed away in 2021. Vallée’s unique vision and direction were instrumental in the first season’s success.

The team has yet to announce who will take on the directorial role for the third season, but Vallée’s legacy will undoubtedly influence its production.

Reflecting on the Journey

The cast’s bond and commitment to the series have been crucial in navigating the logistics of another season.

Kidman emphasized the importance of their connection, stating, “I think when you’re all scattered and never sort of cross paths, it’s very, very different.

But when you’re all still very intertwined, that’s what makes it doable because there’s a willingness, and you want to spend time together.”

Final thoughts

The anticipation for “Big Little Lies” Season 3 is building, with the main cast and author Liane Moriarty actively involved in its development.

Kidman and Witherspoon’s updates have fans eagerly awaiting the return of this compelling series, promising more drama and intricate storylines.

As the team moves “fast and furious” to bring the next season to life, viewers can look forward to reuniting with their favorite characters and uncovering new twists in their lives.
