Tips to Speed Up AC Cooling and Lower Electricity Costs

Listen to the Podcast:

As the temperature rises above 45 degrees in some places of Delhi-NCR, people are forced to stay inside and use AC all the time. But this also means that electricity costs are going up. Here are a few quick tips that will help you save energy, and money, and make your air conditioner work better.

Now that summer is here, the temperature is rising quickly. Temperatures are rising above 45 degrees in many places, like Delhi-NCR, making it too hot to even go outside for a minute. But as temperatures rise, so do power bills. People use air fans around the clock to beat the heat, but this is putting a strain on their wallets.

10 Tips to Speed Up AC Cooling and Lower Electricity Costs

If you’re worried about your rising power bills but still want to use your air conditioner, here are some ways to make it cool more efficiently and save energy.

1. Ideal Temperature

People often think that turning the AC down to its lowest setting will help it cool the room faster. But that isn’t true. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency says that the best temperature for the human body is 24 degrees. So setting your AC to 24 degrees will not only make your room more comfortable, but it will also make the machine work less. So, your AC will work better and use less power.

2. Regular AC Servicing

AC repair and management help the machine work better and save you money in the long run. To make your AC work better, you should have it serviced regularly, especially at the beginning of the season. It’s also a good idea to call the place where you bought the machine for help.

3. Clean the AC Filter Regularly

AC maintenance can be done once or twice a season, but the filters should be cleaned once or twice a month. The AC screens get clogged up from all the pollution and dust storms, making it harder for the machine to cool. It also uses up more energy in the long run. So, use water to clean your AC filter often.

Also, you should clean the cooling unit. Since it is kept outside, it gets dirty more often.

4. Seal all Air Leaks

To get the most out of your air conditioner, close all windows and doors so the cool air can’t escape.

5. Turn on the Ceiling Fan

You can also use your ceiling fan in addition to the AC to help move the air around and cool things down faster. When the fans are going at a modest speed, the cool air moves around the room more effectively.

6. Explore AC Modes

Check out the different modes your AC machine has. Many current ACs have different modes, such as 80%, 60%, or 25% capacity, which can cut down on the amount of electricity used. Try out each of these modes to see which one works best for your room and the weather.

7. Turn on the Timer

Most ACs have timers built in. Set a timer before you go to sleep so that the AC turns off by itself after an hour or two when the room is cool enough. This will cut down on the amount of energy used at night, and you won’t have to wake up in the middle of the night to turn the unit off.

8. Use a Programmable Thermostat

With a controlled thermostat, you can set the temperature to be different at different times of the day. This can help you save energy by lowering the cooling when you’re sleeping or away.

9. Upgrade Your AC

If your AC is old and not very good, it might be time to get a new one. Newer air conditioners use less energy, which can lower your energy costs. Look for those with 4-5 stars because they use less energy.

10. Turn off the AC When Not in Use

And most importantly, turn off your AC totally when you’re not using it. Don’t just use the remote to turn it off; use the main switch instead. This will get rid of any idle load that could waste energy.
