The man who gave Bollywood its biggest hit, “Pathaan,” since the industry seemed to have been suffering in box office collections in the post-covid era, Shah Rukh Khan, the heartthrob of millions, the humble human from Delhi, the resident of Mannat in Mumbai, has now been ranked highest in the TIME 100 Reader Poll.
For the 100th edition of the list published by TIME magazine, Shah Rukh Khan, 57, came first. In the 2023 TIME100 election, Shah Rukh Khan received 4% of the 1.2 million reader votes.
With his acting prowess, wit, and openness in podcasts and interviews, Shah Rukh Khan built his name as Bollywood’s favorite romantic hero by appearing in blockbusters like Dilwale Dulhania le Jayenge and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, which continues to rule hearts.
Shah Rukh Khan is notable for having an estimated net worth of $627 million ($770 million), making him the fourth richest actor in the world and the wealthiest actor in Asia.
Shah Rukh Khan won the fourth spot on the list of the eight richest actors in the world published by World of Statistics in January 2023, besting fellow incredibly well-known and cult celebrities like Tom Cruise, Jackie Chan, and George Clooney.
The Bollywood icon was at the top of the list, which also included Elon Musk, Lionel Messi, Prince Harry, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and Meghan Markle. The actresses came in ahead of people including Olympic athlete Serena Williams, Oscar-winning actor Michelle Yeoh, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
The world-famous figures who the magazine’s readers deemed deserving of a place on its yearly list of the most influential individuals were chosen by reader voting.
Fifth place went to Lionel Messi, whose outstanding play at the Qatar FIFA World Cup 2022 earned him and the Argentine squad the highly desired prize. With 1.8% of the vote, Messi won.
Iranian women who are demanding their rights are in second position. Their percentage of votes was 3%. The women also triumphed in the magazine’s reader poll for 2022 Person of the Year.
The healthcare professionals who have been on the front lines of the epidemic since 2020 came in third with 2% of the votes.
With 1.9% of the vote each, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle took fourth and fourth place, respectively. After publishing his memoir Spare earlier this year, Harry garnered international attention.
Gautam Adani, Karuna Nundy, and Khurram Parvez were the only people from India to appear on the list in 2022.
In a career spanning more than four decades, Shah Rukh Khan has appeared in more than 100 movies. After being absent from the big screen for nearly four years, he made a comeback in 2023.
Atlee’s Jawan and Dunkee, directed by Raj Kumar Hirani, are Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming films. The 2023 release of Jawan, which also features Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi, is scheduled for June. Shah Rukh and Taapsee Pannu are both in the upcoming December film Dunki.
Shah Rukh Khan also had victory in the first game of his team, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), in the 2023 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). On April 6, KKR defeated the Faf Du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
