According to the news agency Reuters, billionaire Elon Musk recently approached AI researchers about building a new research centre to offer an alternative to ChatGPT.
ChatGPT was released on November 30, although it is part of a larger collection of technologies developed by the San Francisco-based startup OpenAI, which has a close partnership with Microsoft. Since then, it has garnered millions of users, many of whom use it for work-related tasks such as drafting emails, researching subjects, and so on.
It’s part of a new breed of AI systems that can talk, generate readable text on demand, and even create new images and movies based on what they’ve learnt from a massive collection of digital books, online articles, and other material. It functions similarly to a written interaction between the AI system and the human asking the questions.
The tool is free to anyone with an internet connection and is intended to be more user-friendly. But, OpenAI announced earlier this month that it intends to release a commercial version as well.
Musk has highlighted a number of weird AI-related events in recent weeks, ranging from Bing Chat’s tendency for ‘creepy’ comments to ChatGPT‘s appearance before the media.
