Saquon Barkley Becomes Highest-Paid RB with Eagles’ $41.2M Deal

Saquon Barkley Eagles Contract Extension

The Philadelphia Eagles have locked in their offensive powerhouse, Saquon Barkley, with a two-year $41.2 million contract extension, making him the highest-paid running back in NFL history. The news was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

While the Eagles confirmed the extension, they did not officially disclose the financial details. However, reports suggest the deal includes $36 million in guaranteed money and $15 million in potential escalators. The exact structure of these escalators has not yet been revealed.

Barkley’s Record-Breaking Season Leads to Historic Contract

This extension comes after Barkley’s extraordinary 2024 season, where he was the league’s leading rusher with 2,005 rushing yards and 2,283 yards from scrimmage, along with 15 touchdowns. His performance was crucial in leading the Eagles to a Super Bowl victory, and he was honored as the NFL Offensive Player of the Year.

Barkley’s 2,504 combined rushing yards in the regular season and playoffs set a new NFL record, surpassing the previous mark held by Terrell Davis. He played a key role in the postseason, rushing for 499 yards over four playoff games, including a standout performance in the Super Bowl win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

A Career Revival After Struggles with the Giants

Before joining the Eagles, Barkley spent several years with the New York Giants, where he often struggled in an inconsistent offense. However, his move to Philadelphia reignited his career, allowing him to showcase his explosiveness and versatility on a championship-caliber team.

With this new deal, Barkley’s average annual salary surpasses that of Christian McCaffrey, who previously held the title of highest-paid running back with a $16 million per year contract with the San Francisco 49ers. This contract effectively resets the market for elite running backs.

Barkley’s Future with the Eagles

At 28 years old, Barkley is now signed with the Eagles through 2028, covering his age-31 season. He will remain a key part of Philadelphia’s offensive strategy as they aim for another Super Bowl run.

Barkley celebrated the contract extension with a post on social media, expressing his excitement and gratitude for continuing his journey with the Eagles.

With his record-breaking season and historic contract, Barkley has solidified his place as one of the most dominant running backs in NFL history—and Philadelphia is betting big on his ability to lead them to more success.
