Melania Trump: Facts About the Former First Lady and Presidential Wife

Melania Trump

On January 20, 2025, Donald Trump officially returned to the White House as the 47th President of the United States. At 78 years old, Trump’s historic second, non-consecutive term began with a highly anticipated inauguration ceremony. The event took place at the West Front of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., marking a key moment in American political history.

A Resounding Victory in the Presidential Election

Trump’s road back to the Oval Office was paved by a commanding victory in the 2024 presidential election. His campaign, characterized by bold promises to “restore American greatness,” resonated deeply with millions of voters. Speaking after his win, Trump described his comeback as a testament to the resilience of his supporters, who remained steadfast in their loyalty.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by prominent political figures, world leaders, and tens of thousands of supporters. The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies orchestrated the event, which featured military honors and stirring musical performances. Trump, taking the oath of office, delivered a speech emphasizing unity, economic revitalization, and a commitment to “putting America first.”

Melania Trump’s Role as First Lady Returns

From Slovenia to the White House

Melania Trump, 54, returns as First Lady alongside her husband. Born Melanija Knavs in Slovenia, she began her career as a model at the age of 16. By 26, she had moved to New York City, where she built a successful modeling career and later met Donald Trump. The couple married in January 2005, celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary just two days after the inauguration.

Melania is Donald Trump’s third wife. He was previously married to Ivana Trump, with whom he shares three children—Donald Jr., Ivanka, and Eric—and to Marla Maples, with whom he has a daughter, Tiffany.

A First Lady on Day One

Melania Trump

Unlike her initial tenure as First Lady during Trump’s first term, when she delayed her move to the White House by nearly five months to allow their son, Barron, to finish school in New York, Melania has made it clear she will move in immediately this time. In a recent interview on “Fox & Friends,” she emphasized her dedication to her responsibilities.

“I will be in the White House,” she stated firmly. “And when I need to be in New York, I will be in New York. When I need to be in Palm Beach, I will be in Palm Beach. But my first priority is, you know, to be a mom, to be a First Lady, to be a wife. And once we are in on January 20, you serve the country.”

Melania, who is often seen as a private and reserved figure, aims to redefine her role as First Lady. Her priorities include advocacy for children’s welfare, cyberbullying awareness, and women’s rights.

Barron Trump: The Next Generation

The youngest member of the Trump family, Barron Trump, now 18 years old, has garnered significant public interest. A freshman at New York University’s Stern School of Business, Barron has been described as “a more youthful Trump” by many commentators. Despite his age, he has already amassed a significant social media following, often capturing public attention with his composed demeanor and sharp style.

Melania Trump’s Memoir: A Closer Look

In October 2024, Melania released her memoir, simply titled “Melania. The book provides an intimate glimpse into her life, from her Cold War childhood in Slovenia, her modeling career, and her marriage to Donald Trump, to her experiences as First Lady.

The memoir also delves into pivotal moments of her life, including the 2022 FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago and her husband’s controversial presidency. In one notable section, Melania takes a strong stance on abortion rights, describing it as an issue of personal freedom. “A woman’s fundamental right to individual liberty, to her own life, grants her the authority to terminate her pregnancy,” she writes.

Critics and supporters alike have praised the book for its candid tone and behind-the-scenes revelations, with some calling it a defining moment in her public life.

A Documentary on the Horizon

Adding to her memoir, a documentary about Melania Trump’s life and tenure as First Lady is set to release later this year. Licensed by Amazon Prime Video, the project reportedly sold for $40 million, with Melania serving as an executive producer. The documentary promises an unprecedented, behind-the-scenes look at her journey, from her childhood in Slovenia to her life in the White House.

Filming began last month, and the production team has described it as a “comprehensive portrait of a private yet influential woman navigating the complexities of public life.”

Inauguration Day: A Look at the Schedule

The day began with an early morning worship service at St. John’s Episcopal Church, known as the “Church of the Presidents,” located near the White House. Following this, President Trump and First Lady Melania hosted a tea session with outgoing President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden.

The swearing-in ceremony, held at noon ET, featured performances by notable artists, including country star Carrie Underwood, opera tenor Christopher Macchio, and Lee Greenwood, known for his anthem “God Bless the U.S.A.” Vice President-elect J.D. Vance was sworn in first, followed by President Trump.

Post-ceremony events included a signing ceremony, an inaugural luncheon, and a grand military parade leading to the White House. The evening celebrations featured multiple inaugural balls, where Trump addressed attendees, reiterating his vision for America.

A New Era Begins

As the Trump family settles back into the White House, the world watches closely to see how this chapter of U.S. history unfolds. For Melania Trump, her return as First Lady is not just a continuation but an opportunity to reshape her legacy. With a firm commitment to her duties, a memoir, and a documentary under her belt, she aims to leave an indelible mark on her role.

President Trump’s second term, marked by promises of economic resurgence and national unity, sets a new stage for American politics. Both challenges and opportunities lie ahead as the administration embarks on its journey.
