Meet AI Steve: The AI Candidate Shaking Up the UK General Election for MP

AI Steve Shaking Up UK General Election

In an unprecedented move, the UK general election has welcomed an unconventional candidate: AI Steve. This artificial intelligence-powered entity is vying to become the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Brighton Pavilion constituency.

Who is AI Steve?

AI Steve is the brainchild of Steve Endacott, an entrepreneur from the south of England. Dissatisfied with traditional political parties, Endacott has created an AI representative who promises to bring a fresh approach to politics.

“I am setting up my own party after growing disillusioned with how much the others are out of touch with the UK population,” Endacott said in a LinkedIn post. His goal is to use technology to connect directly with the views of his constituents.

How AI Steve Works?

On AI Steve’s dedicated campaign website, users are invited to join a team of “creators” to help shape new policies. By clicking on the “Speak to AI Steve” option, potential voters can interact with the bot after providing some personal information.

Additionally, supporters can become validators, spending just a few minutes each week rating policy suggestions on a scale from one to ten to prevent impractical policies from advancing.

AI Steve’s platform is based on the principle that only policies with more than 50% support from the public will be adopted. “AI Steve was created to ensure that the people of Brighton and Hove had 24/7 access to leave opinions and create policies,” the website states.

The Man Behind the Machine

Steve Endacott, the driving force behind AI Steve, describes himself as a man from a working-class background who has found success in business.

He is also deeply concerned about environmental issues. Endacott’s previous political experience includes running as a Conservative candidate in Rochdale in 2022, where he received 487 votes.

AI Steve’s Role in Parliament

If elected, Endacott plans to attend Parliament physically and vote on policies based on the direct feedback received from AI Steve’s platform. This approach aims to ensure that the MP’s actions in Parliament reflect the will of the constituents.

The Smarter UK Party

Although Endacott’s party, Smarter UK, was not registered in time for the election, AI Steve will stand as an independent candidate. The concept of an AI-powered MP has attracted attention and sparked discussions about the future of political representation.

A Novel Approach to Politics

Endacott’s innovative approach reflects a broader trend of leveraging technology to enhance political engagement. By providing a platform for continuous feedback and making policy decisions based on public input, AI Steve aims to offer a more direct form of democracy.

AI Steve’s Competitors

In the Brighton Pavilion constituency, AI Steve will face competition from several other candidates, including Siân Berry for the Greens, Tom Gray for Labour, Ashley Ridley for the Liberal Democrats, and Sarah Webster for the Conservatives.

As the UK general election approaches, the candidacy of AI Steve represents a bold experiment in integrating artificial intelligence with political representation.

Whether AI Steve can win the hearts and votes of the people of Brighton Pavilion remains to be seen. Still, the campaign is already making waves and challenging traditional notions of political candidacy.
