The U.S. Chamber of Commerce predicts that Super Bowl LVIII will attract a significant number of American viewers, along with a corresponding increase in consumer spending, reaching unprecedented levels.
Over 200 million adults in the United States are eagerly anticipating the Super Bowl, according to a National Retail Federation survey. This accounts for well over half of the country’s population of 335 million. Additionally, more than half of these enthusiastic fans have expressed their intention to either host or attend a watch party. According to the trade group, an additional 16 million fans are expected to watch the event from a bar or restaurant.
These numbers highlight the immense economic magnitude of the event. According to the NRF, spending on food, drinks, apparel, party decorations, and other categories related to the Super Bowl is projected to reach a staggering $17.3 billion. That’s an increase of $1 billion compared to last year’s game, which averages out to approximately $86 per person.
Furthermore, it contributes significantly to the financial success of various businesses. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce stated that the upcoming event, featuring the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers, is projected to bring in an extra $500 million for the Las Vegas economy. An estimated 150,000 visitors are expected to come to the city, contributing approximately $215 million in spending on various items such as food and beverages, hotel rooms, and game-related merchandise.
These numbers don’t take into account the significant amounts that will probably be bet on the Super Bowl, considering it is the gambling capital of the U.S. Approximately 68 million American adults, which is roughly 1 in 4, are expected to participate in betting on the contest, as reported by the American Gaming Association. This encompasses wagers made through authorized establishments as well as through unauthorized bookmakers and online platforms based in foreign nations.
The wave of consumer spending resulting from the Super Bowl will extend beyond Las Vegas, Kansas City, or San Francisco. Based on information from the Chamber of Commerce, it is expected that cities throughout the United States will experience an increase in revenue.
