WhatsApp has announced the rollout of dual account support to allow users to operate two accounts within the same app instance. This eliminates the need to carry two phones or frequently log in and out to separate accounts.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg confirmed the feature’s launch for Android users “soon” on Facebook. Previously, having two WhatsApp accounts required multiple devices or tedious account switching.

The new capability enables seamless switching between two accounts, useful for managing personal and work numbers, for example. Users can add their second account in Settings.

Setting Up a Second Account Requires Physical or eSIM

Adding a secondary account requires having both SIMs physically available, either as dual physical SIM or eSIM support. Users can customize notifications and privacy for each account.

This dual accounts feature builds on WhatsApp’s existing multi-device functionality that allows one account across up to 4 linked devices. Earlier this year, it enabled multiple smartphones to access one account.

The rollout follows another major Android addition this week – passkey support for passwordless two-factor authentication login.

Dual accounts solve major friction for users needing to separate numbers professionally and personally. It exemplifies WhatsApp’s continued evolution to fit users’ real-world messaging needs.
