Teddi Mellencamp and Edwin Arroyave Divorce Amid Cancer Battle

teddi mellencamp divorce amid cancer battle

Teddi Mellencamp and Edwin Arroyave have officially resumed their divorce proceedings after pausing the process during her life-threatening cancer treatment. Despite their efforts to support each other through immense personal challenges, the couple has decided to end their 13-year marriage amicably.

A Marriage Tested by Health and Heartbreak

Teddi Mellencamp, reality TV personality and former cast member of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, first filed for divorce from Edwin Arroyave, her husband and the founder of Skyline Security, in November 2024. The couple had been married since 2011 and share three young children: Slate, Cruz, and Dove.

At the time of the initial filing, Mellencamp requested primary physical and legal custody of their children, citing irreconcilable differences. However, within a few weeks, she amended her legal request and instead sought joint physical and legal custody, signaling a desire to co-parent cooperatively despite the end of their romantic relationship.

Cancer Diagnosis Changed Everything

In February 2025, just months after filing for divorce, Mellencamp’s life took a dramatic and terrifying turn. She was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic melanoma—a form of skin cancer that had spread to her brain and lungs. Her condition required immediate and complex medical intervention, including multiple brain surgeries, radiation therapy, and immunotherapy.

The diagnosis brought the divorce proceedings to a halt. Arroyave stepped back into a full-time supportive role, reportedly rallying around her as a spouse despite their separation. He accompanied her to treatments, helped care for their children, and ensured she had a solid support system throughout the painful and uncertain months of her treatment.

According to a source close to the family, “Their divorce was on hold as Edwin was taking care of Teddi. He’s been by her side through some incredibly difficult moments, especially the surgeries and the early days of recovery.”

Health Update: A Grueling Road to Recovery

Mellencamp has been publicly candid about her cancer journey. In multiple Instagram updates and interviews, she revealed that the disease had rapidly progressed, requiring emergency brain surgery to remove multiple tumors. Later scans also identified additional tumors in her lungs and brain, leading her to undergo even more intense rounds of therapy.

In her own words, she shared that doctors gave her a “50/50 chance of survival,” and her final treatment results will be determined by June 1, 2025, when she is expected to receive an update on whether the current treatments have been successful or if the cancer has progressed.

Despite the grave outlook, Mellencamp has remained active and vocal in spreading awareness about melanoma. She has encouraged her followers to get regular skin checks and has been a vocal advocate for early detection, crediting her dermatologist for saving her life by catching the initial signs in 2022.

Decision to Move Forward with Divorce

Now that her condition appears to have stabilized, Mellencamp and Arroyave have mutually agreed to resume the divorce proceedings, citing that her illness, though deeply serious, is not enough to repair or rekindle their marriage.

In a statement shared with DailyMail, a source confirmed:

“While Edwin is dedicated to continuing to help Teddi however he can in her recovery, they have decided that her illness is not enough to keep them together. Their marriage is over, and they want to finalize it amicably and with much respect.”

This decision appears to be a continuation of Mellencamp’s original statement from 2024 when she said:

“After a great deal of care and consideration, I have made the difficult decision to file for divorce. My priority is my children and ensuring that every care is taken with their privacy and well-being.”

Financial Disclosures and Legal Proceedings Continue

Financial Disclosures and Legal Proceedings Continue

According to updated court filings obtained by Reality Blurb and People, Edwin Arroyave recently submitted mandatory financial disclosures as part of the divorce process. These documents are required for all divorce cases in California and indicate a clear signal that the couple is moving ahead with the separation on legal grounds.

There is no reported contention over the custody of their children at this stage. The shift from sole to joint custody earlier in the process suggests both parents are aligned in prioritizing their children’s emotional and physical well-being throughout this transition.

Mutual Support Will Continue Despite Separation

Though no longer together romantically, both Teddi and Edwin have demonstrated a strong commitment to maintaining a united front as parents. Close sources say that Arroyave has no intention of stepping away from Teddi’s life completely and that he will continue to support her recovery, especially as her health outlook remains uncertain.

This model of respectful separation is something Mellencamp has publicly endorsed in her own statements. Despite heartbreak, both are trying to ensure that the family dynamic stays strong and emotionally healthy for their children.

Streaming Availability and Public Attention

Teddi Mellencamp rose to prominence on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, appearing on seasons 8 through 10. She has also served as a wellness coach and runs the lifestyle brand ALL IN by Teddi, which offers structured accountability coaching for health and fitness goals.

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills continues to stream on Peacock (US) and Hayu (UK & Ireland), and her journey continues to capture public attention as fans express both sympathy and admiration for her courage in the face of terminal illness and personal loss.

Waiting on a June 1 Update

Teddi Mellencamp’s next major health update is expected on June 1, 2025, when doctors will provide an assessment of whether her treatment has successfully halted the progression of stage 4 melanoma.

Until then, her focus remains on recovery, family, and advocacy.
