Nikki Glaser Delays Plastic Surgery to Host the 2025 Golden Globes

Nikki Glaser Delays Plastic Surgery

The 2025 Golden Globes are just around the corner, and comedian Nikki Glaser is making history as the show’s newest host. The 40-year-old entertainer is known for her sharp wit and fearless humor, but stepping into the role of host for such a prestigious event comes with its own set of challenges. Nikki isn’t shying away from her nerves; in fact, she’s openly addressing her biggest concerns about the evening.

“The worst thing that could happen is if I faint or have some kind of stroke,” she joked during an interview with The New York Times. Despite these anxieties, Nikki expressed confidence in her preparations, adding, “The material is there… I just feel confident.”

Nikki has gone to great lengths to ensure she’s ready for the big night. She tapped into two separate writers’ rooms to refine her material, a process that included 91 test runs of her opening monologue. For a comedian like Nikki, who thrives on spontaneity and live audience feedback, this level of preparation demonstrates just how seriously she’s taking her hosting debut.

A Career Milestone Worth Delaying Surgery

Hosting the Golden Globes is no small feat, and Nikki’s commitment to this career milestone is evident—she even delayed a scheduled surgery to make it happen. Speaking with CBS Sunday Morning, Nikki shared that she had been planning to undergo a cosmetic procedure, potentially a brow lift or another form of invasive surgery, in January 2025.

However, when her agents learned about her plans, they encouraged her to reconsider the timing. “They’re like, ‘This operation, is there any way you could push it ’til maybe the second week of January?’” Nikki joked. Recognizing the opportunity of a lifetime, she agreed to postpone the procedure.

For Nikki, the decision reflects her dedication to her craft and her desire to give the performance her full attention. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime kind of thing, and I didn’t want anything to distract from that,” she explained.

Vocal Cord Surgery: A Pivotal Moment in 2022

This isn’t Nikki’s first brush with surgery. In 2022, the comedian made headlines when she postponed several tour dates to address an ongoing issue with her vocal cords. For a performer whose voice is her primary tool, the decision to undergo surgery wasn’t taken lightly.

“Basically, my voice is fried, and I’m having it repaired,” Nikki wrote on Instagram ahead of the procedure. The surgery, which required weeks of recovery in complete silence, was a pivotal moment in her career. Nikki approached the situation with her trademark humor, telling Esquire: “I cannot wait to not talk. The world deserves a break from my voice, frankly.”

During the recovery process, Nikki was unable to speak for three to five weeks—a daunting prospect for someone who makes a living through live performances and constant interaction. However, she embraced the challenge, using the time to rest and recharge. “It was one of the most transformative experiences I’ve ever had,” she later shared in an interview.

While Nikki is open about the professional hurdles she’s faced, she’s also been candid about her personal struggles. In a deeply personal essay for The Cut in 2022, she revealed her nearly 20-year battle with eating disorders, starting with anorexia during her high school years.

As a senior in high school, Nikki began starving herself, driven by the praise she received for her weight loss. “They were like, ‘You look great. You look like you’ve lost weight,’” she wrote. “It felt like getting an A on a test I didn’t study for. It was the best feeling.”

The positive reinforcement quickly spiraled into an unhealthy obsession with food and weight. Nikki admitted to going days without eating, which eventually led to her hospitalization before she started college. However, her battle didn’t end there.

In her 20s, Nikki faced a new challenge: binge eating and bulimia. “I would starve all day, wait to eat until nightfall, and then eat all night long,” she shared. Her disordered eating habits were accompanied by an intense focus on calories and excessive exercise.

These behaviors took a toll on her health, causing stress fractures and broken bones. “Then I wouldn’t be able to work out, so I would go back to starving myself,” she explained. It was a vicious cycle that took years to break.

Finding Recovery Through Support

Nikki eventually sought help through a 12-step program, which became a turning point in her journey toward recovery. She started eating three meals a day and worked to rebuild her relationship with food.

“I used to get really high off the feeling of hunger, and I do a lot of work to combat that now,” Nikki said. She acknowledged that recovery is an ongoing process, sharing that she still has difficult days.

“There are days where I really struggle with gaining a couple of pounds or my jeans fitting too tight,” she admitted. But Nikki has learned to focus on her progress rather than perfection. “When you stop fighting it, when you stop trying to control it, your body will just be what it needs to be,” she said.

The Road to the Golden Globes

Nikki’s journey—both personally and professionally—has been marked by resilience, determination, and a willingness to confront her challenges head-on. From overcoming eating disorders to navigating the pressures of Hollywood, Nikki has proven that she’s more than ready to take on the Golden Globes stage.

Her debut as host is shaping up to be a memorable moment, not just for Nikki but for the audience as well. With her signature humor, extensive preparation, and unwavering commitment, Nikki Glaser is poised to deliver a show that viewers won’t soon forget.

The 2025 Golden Globes airs this Sunday, and all eyes will be on Nikki as she steps into the spotlight for one of Hollywood’s biggest nights.
