Judge Dismisses Key Charges in Diddy’s $30M Sexual Assault Lawsuit

Diddy lawsuit charges dismissed

A federal judge has partially dismissed a high-profile lawsuit filed against music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs by former producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones. The $30 million suit, filed in February 2024, accused Combs of sexual assault and various other serious offenses. While some charges remain, the court has dismissed five major claims, significantly narrowing the scope of the case.

Background of the Lawsuit

Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones, who worked on six songs from Combs’ Grammy-nominated album The Love Album: Off the Grid, filed a lawsuit in New York in February 2024. He accused Combs of making unwanted sexual advances, forcing him to hire sex workers, and participate in sexual acts against his will.

Jones also claimed that Combs was part of a larger criminal network—described in the lawsuit as a “RICO enterprise”—that allegedly included Combs’ son Justin, chief of staff Kristina Khorram, music executives like Universal Music Group CEO Lucian Grainge and former Motown Records CEO Ethiopia Habtemariam, as well as several unnamed individuals.

Judge Partially Grants Motion to Dismiss

In an order filed by Judge J. Paul Oetken and reviewed by Variety, several of Jones’ claims were dismissed after Combs filed a motion in August 2024 to throw out the case. The judge agreed to dismiss the following five charges:

  • RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act) claim against Combs and Khorram
  • Negligent infliction of emotional distress
  • Intentional infliction of emotional distress
  • Breach of contract
  • Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA) claim against Combs Global

Judge Oetken criticized the structure of Jones’ complaint, which ran over 400 paragraphs, stating it was not the court’s job to search for possible arguments on the plaintiff’s behalf.

What Charges Still Remain?

Despite the dismissals, the judge allowed some of the core claims to move forward. These include:

  • Sexual assault
  • Liability claims against Combs
  • TVPA claims against Combs and his chief of staff, Kristina Khorram

This means that the case is not over and will now move into the discovery phase, where both sides gather evidence.

Reprimand for Plaintiff’s Lawyer

Alongside his ruling, the judge also issued a serious warning to Jones’ attorney, Tyrone Blackburn. He described Blackburn’s legal filings as filled with inaccurate legal arguments and personal attacks on the opposing counsel.

Judge Oetken noted that the opposition brief and complaints contained “irrelevant insults, misstatements, and exaggerations,” warning that further misconduct could lead to sanctions or professional discipline.

Despite the criticism, Blackburn told Variety, “A win is a win. Play time is over. Now, it is time for discovery.”

Additional Allegations in the Case

Jones’ complaint includes many disturbing allegations beyond sexual misconduct. He accuses Combs of:

  • Acquiring and using illegal drugs like ecstasy and cocaine
  • Displaying unlicensed firearms
  • Lacing alcoholic drinks given to minors and sex workers
  • Engaging in other unsafe and illegal behavior at his various homes

Combs responded by calling the claims exaggerated and baseless. In his motion to dismiss, his legal team described the lawsuit as “a run-of-the-mill commercial disagreement dressed up as a salacious RICO conspiracy.” They criticized the complaint for being nearly 100 pages long and full of “tall tales, shameless celebrity namedrops, and irrelevant images.”

What Happens Next?

Although several claims have been thrown out, the remaining ones are serious and will be explored further during the legal discovery process. The lawsuit is still ongoing and could lead to further court proceedings or a potential settlement in the future.

This case is one of many recent legal challenges facing Sean “Diddy” Combs and continues to draw public and media attention due to its explosive nature and the high-profile individuals involved.
