China has approved the second-largest coronavirus vaccine after Russia. The approval came after its successful first-and second-stage tests.
The Xi Jinping administration on Sunday registered the “Ed5-nCOV” vaccine. Chen Wei’s team of infectious diseases specialist of the Chinese army and CanSino Biologics has developed the vaccine, China’s Global Television Network (CGTN) reported.
According to CGTN, China has patented its first coronavirus vaccine. The vaccine was developed by a team from the Chinese military’s infectious disease specialist Chen Wei. Earlier, second-stage tests showed the vaccine was safe and capable of boosting immunity.
Citing clinical trial data published in Journal of the Medical Association of the United States, Xinhua News Agency reported that the Covid-19 vaccine has made it safer and more resistant.
The first phase of the trial involved 320 healthy volunteers between the ages of 18 and 59. In the second phase, 224 volunteers took part.
According to Xinhua, results of the trial indicated that the vaccine effectively produces neutral antibodies in the bodies of volunteers and demonstrated good ability to fight the disease.
Earlier, Russia registered the first Covid-19 vaccine. The country’s health ministry said on Sunday that it had already begun developing the coronavirus vaccine. Their vaccine will be first applied to physicians and health workers.
