According to UN data, more than 4.4 million Ukrainian refugees have fled their nation since Russian President Vladimir Putin authorized an invasion on February 24.
On Saturday, the UNHCR reported 4,441,663 Ukrainian refugees.
That was an increase of 59,347 over the previous day.
Since World War II, Europe has not experienced such a large influx of refugees.
Women and children account for 90% of those who have fled Ukraine, as Ukrainian authorities do not allow men of military age to leave.
Around 210,000 non-Ukrainians have also fled the country, according to the UN’s International Organization for Migration (IOM), with some having difficulty returning to their home countries.
According to numbers released by the IOM on April 5, the UN believes that 7.1 million people have been displaced within the country.
Over 11 million people, or over a quarter of the population, have been forced to evacuate their homes, cross into neighboring countries, or seek sanctuary elsewhere in Ukraine.
Before the crisis, Ukraine had a population of over 37 million people living in territory controlled by Kyiv, which does not include Crimea, which Russia invaded in 2014, or eastern regions held by pro-Russian separatists.
By far most refugees are housed in Poland. According to the UNHCR, 2,564,994 people have entered Poland since February 24.
Following that, many of them travel to other European countries. According to the UNHCR, 700,000 people who stay in Poland have already been given a national identification number. In contacts with Polish government entities, health services, phone lines, and access to specific banking services, the number is extensively utilized.
Since the war, Polish border police estimate that over 500,000 individuals have returned to Ukraine. Before the war, Poland had roughly 1.5 million Ukrainian immigrant workers.
As of April 8, 678,081 persons had traveled to Romania, according to the UN refugee agency, the majority of whom arrived via Moldova before continuing on to other countries.
Raouf Mazou, the UNHCR’s assistant high commissioner for operations, welcomed “the swift action taken by the Romanian government to secure access to rights and services through temporary protection” following a visit to Romania this week.
According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, 406,611 Ukrainians have invaded Moldova, a small country with a population of 2.6 million people that is among Europe’s poorest but also the closest to the Ukrainian port of Odesa.
The European Commission is urging Ukrainian refugees to continue their journey to a European Union country that is better prepared to support them financially.
According to the UNHCR, Hungary had taken in 413,888 Ukrainians as of April 8.
According to the UNHCR, a total of 310,989 persons had arrived from Ukraine since the fighting began on April 8.
As of April 8, Russia’s refugee population was 389,845 people. 113,000 people crossed into Russia from the separatist republics of Donetsk and Lugansk in eastern Ukraine between February 21 and 23.
Belarus had taken in 19,096 migrants as of April 7.
According to the UNHCR, the data supplied by the High Commissioner count individuals who have crossed the border and entered Ukraine from Schengen countries bordering Ukraine (Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia).
“According to the UNHCR, a considerable number of people have traveled on to other countries.” It also stated that it did not include persons returning home from Ukraine from neighboring countries.
