But when the Emperor heard about this case, he decided to forgive them. He didn’t punish the couple. This was surprising because the Emperor usually followed the rules very strictly.

B. Michelangelo’s David Contract (1501)

On August 16, 1501, a young artist named Michelangelo got a very important job. He was asked to make a statue of David for the Florence Cathedral. The people in charge of the cathedral, called the Operai, gave him this task.
