After four years, during the tournament, his assistant pointed out that a player in his World Cup squad lacked sufficient interest in football. This observation was made when the player couldn’t answer a question to their satisfaction.
Looks like all that talk about “empathy” and “support” was just empty words. Benjamin White decided to depart from the England camp and has chosen not to make himself eligible for international selection ever since.
According to the report, the problem seems to revolve around the level of respect given to the player. The accusation was absolutely ridiculous and completely laughable. The notion that White lacks interest in football is absolutely absurd. At the age of 16, Southampton decided to let him go. He has experienced playing in League Two’s mid-table, competing in a League One promotion battle, and being a key player in a Championship-winning campaign under a coach known for his demanding training methods. He plays a vital role in one of the top club teams in global football, excelling in a versatile position that demands exceptional focus and commitment. He was considered deserving of England’s call-up.

This included understanding the spin of the ball when passing, the technique behind the pass, and the reasoning behind it. The White regarded Bielsa as a highly skilled and dedicated professional. Mikel Arteta regards him as a highly dedicated individual with a strong drive to succeed, and someone who sets a positive example for others on a daily basis. Dan Ashworth, who is set to join Manchester United, once praised White for being an excellent professional. He commended White for being low maintenance and having a great capacity for learning. He carries the sacrifices and scars of any other elite player, and to doubt that is disrespectful.
There is a clear pattern among those White has collaborated with, with the England national team being the only exception. Despite his undeniable talent, White consistently demonstrates unwavering dedication in both his play and training, earning him widespread admiration and recognition.
It’s disappointing to witness someone like Steve Holland deliberately misinterpreting something that was clarified three years ago and has been thoroughly explained since. It’s disheartening to see a project that was rightfully praised for its emphasis on unity, support, and consciousness succumb to these tired clichés.

In the same interview, he mentioned his deep passion for the game and how he was always immersed in it as a child. He emphasized his dedication, giving his all in games, training, and preparation. However, he also acknowledged the intensity of it all and the need to switch off. Unfortunately, White fell into the category of footballers who took their privileged position for granted, rather than approaching their job with a healthy mindset.
The reaction from rival supporters hoping to score points on social media was predictable, but it is disappointing to see England’s assistant manager expressing the same nonsense in front of his teammates. This is a setback for the coaching team, which was previously seen as invincible. It is a disappointment in managing people from a leadership that once excelled at it as their primary advantage.
Southgate’s insistence that White’s self-imposed exile had nothing to do with any “issues” with Holland only highlights the incompetence of this England management team.
