A Russian missile strike on a railway station in east Ukraine on Friday killed more than 30 people and injured over 100 more as residents attempted to flee to safer parts of the nation, according to the state railway company.
Two Russian missiles hit a station in the city of Kramatorsk that is used to evacuate residents from areas under Russian fire.
Two rockets were fired at the Kramatorsk railway station, according to Ukrainian Railways, reports Reuters.
“According to operational data, more than 30 people were killed and more than 100 people were injured in the rocket attack on Kramatorsk railway station,” the statement continued.
The information could not be verified by Reuters. Russia did not immediately respond to reports of the strike or the number of people killed. Since invading Ukraine on February 24, Moscow has denied targeting civilians.
According to the chief of Ukrainian Railways, three trains transporting evacuees were blocked in the same region of Ukraine on Thursday after an air strike on the railway.
Russian soldiers have been reorganizing for a new onslaught, according to Ukrainian officials, and Moscow intends to grab as much territory as possible in the eastern area of Ukraine known as Donbas, which borders Russia.
In certain regions, local authorities have urged citizens to flee while it is still possible and relatively safe to do so.
