Despite leadership turmoil at AI lab OpenAI, the company continues shipping new products. OpenAI’s former President Greg Brockman announced the rollout of ChatGPT Voice for all free users on Tuesday afternoon.
The new feature allows users to speak to ChatGPT and have it respond in one of five human-sounding voices. This completely changes the ChatGPT experience from typing text to having conversations.
The AI voices—Juniper, Sky, Breeze, Ember, and Cove—sound more human-like than digital assistants such as Siri in terms of rhythm and intonation. The launch of ChatGPT Voice is a reminder of OpenAI’s pioneering technology, even as leadership turmoil raises questions about the company’s future direction. The speech functionality is a big upgrade to ChatGPT’s user experience.
