After completing the course, the candidate is eligible to take the NCLEX-PN exam in order to get certified and begin working as a practical nurse.
Requirements
Candidates are required to get admission to a certified practical nursing college to attend an online LPN program. However, merely receiving the degree does not give one the right to work in a professional setting. The state has made passing the NCLEX-PN exam a requirement to obtain a license because nursing is a responsible profession, and any neglect could have detrimental effects. Licensure limits the entry of unqualified people into the profession and lessens the likelihood of patients being harmed by practitioners’ negligence.
By Examination
Candidates who have graduated from a Nevada LPN school that has been approved may apply for licensure by examination. For the candidate to be eligible to undertake the NCLEX-PN exam, they must meet the requirements listed below:
- Ask the board to receive an affidavit from your school.
- Send the board the official transcripts.
- Request an application packet that includes a fingerprinting card and an application. The applicant may also download the application and submit it to the board along with the requisite fee. Once the fingerprinting has been completed, the board will provide the fingerprinting card for submission.
- The applicant needs to sign up with Pearson Vue (the NCLEX-PN test company).
- The board notifies Pearson Vue of the candidate’s eligibility. The Nursing Board of Nevada will grant the applicant Authorization to Test (ATT) if it is determined that the candidate is qualified. Through ATT, the candidate can arrange the venue and date of the exam.
By endorsement
LPN nurses with active licenses in another state may be granted an endorsement to get an LPN license in Nevada by following the steps below:
- Download the application
- The fingerprint card must be completed by the applicant and submitted to the board together with the application. If you get your fingerprints taken in Nevada, send them electronically rather than with a card.
- As proof of finishing the nursing education program, the applicant must send a copy of their diploma with their application. The applicant must provide a copy of the LPN certificate or official transcript issued by the board, which should include the nursing degree and graduation date.
- The form must be filled out completely, including the name, signature, address, and social security number. Incomplete applications won’t be processed.
License Renewal
Rather than engaging in the initial licensing process, candidates who previously possessed an active license in Nevada that is currently inactive or expired must renew their license. Here are the steps to follow:
- They should possess evidence of nursing practice performed during the last five years in any state in the United States. Nursing practice can be any paid or volunteer work.
- The candidate must attend a board-approved refresher course to brush up on their knowledge and abilities if they haven’t worked as a nurse in the last five years.
- The candidate must then finish 30 hours of continuing education throughout the renewal period.
- Additionally, the candidate must complete a one-time bioterrorism course in accordance with NAC 632.343.
