Federico Redondo has been officially signed by Inter Miami from Argentinos Juniors, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.
Miami officially agreed to pay a package of €8 million (£6.8 million) for the 21-year-old defensive midfield player, which includes a 15% sell-on clause, following a verbal agreement with the Argentine club last week.
As a result of the transfer, Messi will now play alongside Real Madrid’s legendary player, Fernando Redondo’s son.
At the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, Redondo, now 54, played for six seasons (1994–2000), totaling 228 games.
The defensive midfielder was a key member of Real Madrid’s two La Liga wins and two Champions League crowns amid a difficult run for Barcelona.
Following a major knee injury that occurred soon after coming to the San Siro, the Argentina star made a contentious move to AC Milan in 2000 and only made 33 appearances over the course of four years. In 2004, he retired.
Like his father, Federico returned to Argentina when he was young to play the same position on the pitch with the Argentinos Juniors’ junior setup.
