Indian women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur praised opener Shafali Verma for her outstanding performance in the third T20I against Bangladesh, which helped India secure a comprehensive 7-wicket victory and clinch the series with an unassailable 3-0 lead.
The Sylhet International Cricket Stadium hosted the match on Thursday.
Harmanpreet Kaur expressed her confidence in Shafali Verma’s ability to consistently score runs during the powerplay overs, stating that the team can always rely on her to provide a strong start. Smriti Mandhana’s 47 and Verma’s blistering 38-ball 51 laid the foundation for India’s convincing win.
The opening duo put on a 91-run partnership before Ritu Moni’s stunning one-handed catch off her own bowling ended Shafali’s innings. Harmanpreet commended both openers, saying, “Smriti and Shafali were batting well; we were hoping they could win the match for us. After the 10th over, they kept the ball low and their bowlers tight.

The Indian captain also lauded the bowling efforts of her team, particularly Deepti Sharma’s economical spell of 0-18 in her 4 overs. Deepti also showcased her fielding skills with a sharp throw from point to dismiss Murshida Khatun for 9 of 16 deliveries.
“All of them bowled really well, and Deepti bowled crucial overs for us. We are really proud of the way they are bowling.” Harmanpreet added, “They understood where to bowl and executed their plans well.”
Speaking about Deepti Sharma’s role in the team, Harmanpreet said, “She is someone who is very experienced; whenever we are in trouble, I give the ball to her; she is doing very well for us and I hope she continues to do well for us.”
Harmanpreet stressed the importance of taking responsibility and performing well in the remaining matches of the series, irrespective of the player’s selection. “Well, we still have three more days until the next game; we will sit and think; whoever plays will take responsibility for the team and do well,” she said.
Harmanpreet also praised the coaching staff for their calm and composed demeanor, stating that clarity of thought is crucial at this level. “They are always giving us responsibility; I’m really happy they are working with us,” she added.
India will look to extend their winning streak when they face Bangladesh in the fourth T20I at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Monday, having already secured the series with an unassailable 3-0 lead in the 5-match series.
