Gal Gadot, known worldwide as the iconic Wonder Woman, has opened up about a life-threatening health scare she faced earlier this year. The actress revealed she underwent emergency surgery for a “massive” blood clot in her brain during the eighth month of her pregnancy.
In an emotional Instagram post, the actress recounted the terrifying experience. “In February, during my eighth month of pregnancy, I was diagnosed with a massive blood clot in my brain,” Gadot shared. “For weeks, I had endured excruciating headaches that confined me to bed, until I finally underwent an MRI that revealed the terrifying truth.”
The diagnosis, which came at a time when she was eagerly anticipating the arrival of her daughter, threw her family into turmoil. “In one moment, my family and I were faced with how fragile life can be. It was a stark reminder of how quickly everything can change, and in the midst of a difficult year, all I wanted was to hold on and live,” she revealed.
A Race Against Time
Upon learning the severity of her condition, Gadot and her family rushed to Cedars Sinai Hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery within hours. Despite the uncertainty surrounding her health, Gadot found strength in her unborn child. She explained, “Before the surgery, I told Jaron [her husband] that when our daughter arrived, she would be the light waiting for me at the end of this tunnel.”
Her daughter, Ori, was born in early March during this challenging time. Gadot explained the heartfelt meaning behind Ori’s name, which translates to “my light.” “Her name wasn’t chosen by chance,” Gadot wrote, emphasizing how Ori symbolized hope and resilience during one of the darkest moments of her life.
Gratitude and Healing
Now fully recovered, Gadot expressed her deep gratitude to the doctors and staff at Cedars Sinai Hospital who helped her through this life-threatening ordeal. “I am fully healed and filled with gratitude for the life I’ve been given back,” she shared. The experience has left Gadot with a newfound appreciation for life and a determination to raise awareness about a rare but dangerous condition.
Raising Awareness for Cerebral Venous Thrombosis (CVT)
In her post, Gadot reflected on her journey and her reasons for sharing such a deeply personal story. “The journey has taught me so much. First, it’s vital to listen to our bodies and trust what it’s telling us. Pain, discomfort, or even subtle changes often carry deeper meaning, and being attuned to your body can be life-saving.”
She also highlighted the importance of awareness, revealing that her condition—cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT)—affects approximately 3 in 100,000 pregnant women in their 30s. “It’s so important to identify [CVT] early because it’s treatable. While rare, it’s a possibility, and knowing it exists is the first step to addressing it.”
Gadot’s intention in sharing her experience was to inspire others to prioritize their health and take action when something feels off. “If even one person feels compelled to take action for their health because of this story, it will have been worth sharing,” she concluded.
A Story of Strength and Hope
Gal Gadot’s story is a powerful reminder of the unpredictability of life and the strength that can emerge in moments of vulnerability. Her courage in sharing her experience has sparked an important conversation about health awareness and the realities that can lie behind the carefully curated images we see on social media.
Through her words, Gadot has shed light on a rare medical condition and inspired countless individuals to listen to their bodies, trust their instincts, and cherish the life they have.
