Xavier Worthy Won’t Face Domestic Assault Charges – Latest Update

Xavier Worthy Domestic Assault Charges Dropped

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy was released from jail on Saturday after being arrested on Friday in Georgetown, Texas. He will not face domestic assault charges, according to prosecutors.

Details of the Arrest

The 21-year-old NFL star was taken into custody by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office on a charge of third-degree felony assault. Authorities initially accused him of choking a family or household member, an offense that could lead to two to ten years in prison. However, after reviewing witness statements, prosecutors decided not to press charges at this time.

Prosecutors’ Statement

Williamson County District Attorney Shawn Dick confirmed that his office was not moving forward with the case. He also mentioned that Worthy had been fully cooperating with the investigation.

Worthy’s Attorneys Defend Him

Worthy’s lawyers, Chip Lewis and Sam Bassett, stated that he was innocent. They explained that the allegation came from a woman living in his home, who had been asked to leave multiple times over the past two weeks.

According to the attorneys, the woman refused to leave and made several extortion attempts before accusing Worthy of assault. They also claimed she damaged a room, scratched Worthy’s face, and pulled out parts of his hair, providing photographic evidence of these actions.

NFL and Team Response

A spokesperson for the NFL stated that the league is aware of the situation and has been in contact with the Chiefs. However, the team has not yet commented on the matter.

Worthy’s NFL Career

Worthy was selected as the 28th pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. In his rookie season, he recorded 59 receptions for 638 yards, 104 rushing yards, and nine total touchdowns. He also played a key role in the Chiefs’ playoff run, becoming the team’s leading receiver and participating in the Super Bowl against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Background and College Career

Worthy was born in Fresno, California, and played college football for the University of Texas Longhorns before entering the NFL. Williamson County, where the incident took place, includes parts of Austin.

While Worthy was initially accused of serious charges, prosecutors have chosen not to proceed with the case. The NFL and the Kansas City Chiefs are monitoring the situation as Worthy moves forward with his football career.
