According to a report from WABetaInfo, the creation of this brand-new feature is presently underway, and it will soon be accessible in beta form. Some of our rivals already provide this functionality, albeit it is possible that it is restricted to their paid subscription tiers exclusively.
Instead of depending on already existing apps for transcription, the team behind WhatsApp is working on inventing their own solution. There were rumors that WhatsApp was conducting tests of the feature on iOS devices in the month of September 2021. In addition, Apple services are being utilized for the transcription process rather than Facebook or Meta.
Despite this, the development of the feature was put on hold indefinitely for reasons that are now unknown. This happens rather frequently. The testing procedures don’t always go well, which results in a significant number of preliminary functionalities being left out of the product’s final release.

The development of voice memo transcription is now available in the most recent beta release for WhatsApp on iOS, which is version 23.3.0.73. The screen that serves as the introduction to the new feature will provide an explanation of the circumstances in which the transcription will not be available. These circumstances include situations in which the words being spoken are not recognized or occur in a language that is not one of those that are pre-installed within the app.
It is essential to keep in mind that the transcripts will be created on the device, which means they will be stored locally.
Both WhatsApp and Apple won’t be able to access it. In order for users to access the feature, they will be required to download the appropriate language packs. According to WABetaInfo, this function may only be accessible on more recent versions of the iOS operating system.
