Tina Knowles Oprah Interview Sparks Backlash Over ‘Shady’ Comment

Tina Knowles Oprah Interview

Oprah Winfrey is under scrutiny following her recent interview with Tina Knowles on the “Oprah’s Book Club” podcast. During the discussion, Winfrey highlighted Knowles’ candidness in her memoir, Matriarch, particularly regarding her past marriages. She remarked on Knowles’ openness about her “ex-husbands,” emphasizing the plural form, which some listeners perceived as pointed.

The comment sparked reactions on social media, with some users labeling it as “shady” and “unnecessary.” One user on X (formerly Twitter) remarked, “Oprah’s shady ass,” while another added, “That was so unnecessary She better keep it cute like we don’t play about Mama Tina.” Others defended Winfrey, noting the long-standing friendship between the two women and suggesting the remark was made in jest. One user commented, “Lol Oprah and them are friends, so chill, guys. It’s funny.”

In the same interview, Winfrey praised Knowles for her fairness in discussing her ex-husband Mathew Knowles in the memoir, noting that she was “fair” in her portrayal.

Tina Knowles Opens Up About Breast Cancer Diagnosis

In her memoir Matriarch, Tina Knowles reveals her battle with stage 1 breast cancer, diagnosed in July 2024. The diagnosis came after she missed a routine mammogram during the COVID-19 pandemic. Knowles underwent a lumpectomy and is now cancer-free. She emphasizes the importance of regular screenings, stating, “If I had not gotten my test early, I mean, I shudder to think what could have happened to me.”

Her daughters, Beyoncé and Solange, along with other family members, provided support during her treatment. Knowles shared that her daughters responded supportively to the diagnosis—Beyoncé approached it with positivity, while Solange assured her of their care.

Insights from Matriarch

Matriarch delves into Tina Knowles’ personal journey, including her upbringing in Galveston, Texas, experiences with racial injustice, and her roles as a mother to Beyoncé and Solange Knowles. The book also touches on her marriages, including her divorce from Mathew Knowles in 2011 due to infidelity and her subsequent marriage to Richard Lawson in 2015, from whom she filed for divorce in 2023 citing irreconcilable differences.

Additionally, Knowles discusses her recent health challenges, including her breast cancer diagnosis, and emphasizes the importance of self-care and regular health screenings. She hopes her story will inspire others to prioritize their health and well-being.

Matriarch is available now and has been selected as Oprah’s latest book club pick. The full interview between Winfrey and Knowles can be viewed on Oprah’s YouTube channel.
