Shafin Ahmed passed away due to a massive heart attack in a hospital in Virginia, USA. His passing has left a void in the hearts of music lovers worldwide. The tragic news was confirmed by his brother, fellow musician Hamin Ahmed, who shared the heartbreaking information.

Last Moments and Confirmation

Shafin Ahmed, a beloved figure in the music industry, was known for timeless hits such as “Harano Sukh,” “Aj Jonmodin Tomar,” “Phiriye Dao,” and “Neela.” He breathed his last far from his homeland, in the United States. The news of his passing was also confirmed by Ashfaqul Bari Rumon, lead vocalist of the band Parthibo, who shared detailed information about Shafin’s final moments.

Rumon recounted, “Shafin suffered a massive heart attack. He had a concert scheduled in Virginia on July 20. Unfortunately, he fell ill before the show and had to cancel it. He was admitted to the hospital that day. As his condition deteriorated and his organs started failing, he was put on life support. Despite the best efforts of the medical team, we couldn’t bring him back.”

Rumon also mentioned, “I spoke with Shafin’s bandmate Raisul Islam Rimon, who confirmed the news. Shafin had been on life support for the past two days in a Virginia hospital, fighting for his life.”

Shafin Ahmed passed away at 6:50 am Bangladesh time on July 25, 2024. Despite efforts to reach his elder brother, Hamin Ahmed, for more details, they were unsuccessful, highlighting the family’s profound grief during this difficult time.

A Musical Legacy

Shafin Ahmed was born on February 14, 1961 in Kolkata, into a family deeply rooted in the world of music. His mother, Firoza Begum, was a legendary vocalist renowned for her contributions to Nazrul Sangeet, and his father, Kamal Dasgupta, was a celebrated musician and composer. Growing up in such a musically enriched environment, Shafin was immersed in music from an early age. He received classical music training from his father and learned Nazrul songs from his mother, shaping his early musical foundation.

Later in life, Shafin, along with his elder brother Hamin, was exposed to Western music while studying in the UK. This exposure led to the formation of Miles, a band that would go on to become one of Bangladesh’s top music groups. Shafin’s unique voice and musical talent played a crucial role in the band’s success. He contributed his voice to 90% of their songs, earning widespread popularity and acclaim. Besides singing, he was also the band’s bassist, showcasing his versatility as a musician.

Despite the band’s success, Shafin’s journey with Miles was not without its challenges. Due to longstanding disputes with his brother, Shafin left Miles recently to form his own group. Some of his most beloved songs include “Chand Tara Surjo,” “Jala Jala,” “Phiriye Dao,” and “Firey Ele Na,” which continue to resonate with fans.
