Four Crucial Rules to Setting Achievable Goals – A Brief Guide

Rules to Setting Achievable Goals

When it comes to chasing your dream life, one of the best ways to track progress is by creating milestones. Milestones will allow you to see what you are accomplishing and how you accomplish your goals.

When it comes to living life to the fullest, you might already know that peopl without goals are not as successful as they hope to be. Also, people who don’t write down goals are less likely to achieve them. Nonetheless, the truth prevails that in the grand picture of life, having goals is absolutely crucial.

The Importance of Setting Goals

Life goals give you the much-needed momentum to push through adversity that you are prone to experience when chasing your dream life. So, the question that you might want to ask yourself is whether or not you need to set goals.

If you are like most people, you might be setting goals at the start of each year – only to feel guilty about never following through at the end of the year. This aspect might have kept you wondering whether or not you really need to set goals and make an effort to see your dreams come true.

The simple answer is Yes!

The truth for most people is that they haven’t created goals that will help them succeed. Simultaneously, they lack the ability to follow through because of the fear of poor goal creation, which also prevents them from taking action in the first place.

Be Specific with Your Goals

You might already be familiar with the SMART goal system, which is essentially a great system that can help you achieve your goals. Let us talk about the SMARTER goal system, which starts with setting a specific goal.

For instance, your goal is to buy a house – but not just any house. You will want to be more specific with what you want and where you want it, which will impact all other aspects of that goal. Suppose you want to buy a house. In this case, you might want to buy a house in Santa Barbara, in which case, you will want to get in touch with the realtor santa barbara, and ensure that you have the best realtor, who can save you money, time, and loads of headache that is part of the home-buying process.

Nonetheless, you get the point – specification is mandatory if you want to set achievable goals. The More specific you are, the easier it will be to quantify your goals along the way.

Set Measurable Goals

Another important aspect of setting attainable goals is to make sure that the goals are measurable. The thing about measurable goals is that they will enable you to see progress over time. Suppose your goal is to lose weight. You will want to specify the weight that you want to be after a certain period.

You will want to make this goal measurable by going into the details that you can track. A measurable goal would be that you will lose 3 kilos in a month. Or, if your goal is to write a novel, you can measure the progress by setting a word limit for each week.

Every goal needs a deadline, which means that you are supposed to take action within a specific timeframe. You need to be clear about when you will complete your goals.

Make Sure the Goals Are Actionable

Each goal – no matter how small or big – needs to be actionable in terms of helping you get somewhere. It is important to mention here that any goal is actionable if it is instantly clear what potential actions you need to take in order to accomplish your goals.

A simple way to make an actionable goal is to begin with a verb at the time of writing down your goals. So, instead of jotting down nouns, such as “house” and “weight,” you might want to jot down complete sentences, such as the following:

  • I will buy a house this year.
  • I will get my finances in order.
  • I will lose ten kilos by the end of three months.

Relevancy Matters

To create achievable goals, you will want to ensure that your goals are relevant and relatable. You will want to ensure that your goals are relevant to your life. For instance, your goal of buying a house might not be relatable if you struggle with holding down a job for more than a few months.

Also, if you do not have a dedicated workout routine and if you fail to eat healthy foods, then you might not be able to lose your extra weight. You get the point – when you set a goal, you will need to think about your current situation to avoid creating goals that are impossible to achieve.

You need to create goals that you can indeed accomplish at your current stage in life.
