Reality TV mogul and singer Kandi Burruss has opened up about her split from husband Todd Tucker, revealing that the decision to end their 11-year marriage was not a sudden impulse but rather a resolution that had been “brewing for a while.”
The Real Housewives of Atlanta alum, 49, officially filed for divorce on Friday, November 21, sending shockwaves through the Bravo universe. While the announcement stunned fans—especially occurring just days after the couple appeared together at BravoCon 2025—Burruss suggests the separation was the result of a gradual drift rather than a singular explosive event.
‘Brewing for a While’
Speaking candidly during an Amazon Live session shortly after the news broke, Burruss addressed the elephant in the room with characteristic transparency. She admitted that the split was “a long time coming,” confirming reports that she and Tucker, 52, had been growing apart for months prior to the filing.
It’s something that has been brewing,” Burruss shared, noting that while the public is just finding out, the couple has been navigating this disconnect privately. Sources close to the pair indicated that the separation is amicable, with “legitimately no drama” involved—a stark contrast to the often volatile separations seen in the reality TV sphere.
The BravoCon Paradox
The timing of the announcement added a layer of irony to the heartbreak. Just one week prior, on November 14, Burruss was onstage at BravoCon 2025 accepting the “Wifetime Achievement Award.” During her acceptance speech, she publicly thanked Tucker for enduring the unique pressures of their public life.
“To Todd, thank you for surviving the blogs, the shade, the rumors, the lies… You earned this award, too,” she told the crowd at the time.
Looking back, the speech now reads as a graceful acknowledgment of their shared history rather than a confirmation of their current status. Despite the impending filing, the couple maintained a united front at the event, a testament to their commitment to keeping their personal struggles out of the spotlight until they were ready to speak.
Prioritizing Peace and Co-Parenting
In her official statement to People, Burruss emphasized that her primary focus is now on her children and her own mental well-being.
“After deep thought and a lot of prayer, I’ve made the decision to move forward with a divorce,” Burruss stated. “This is a difficult and emotional time, but my focus remains on protecting my peace, being the best mother I can be, and co-parenting with love and respect”.
She proved that commitment almost immediately. The day after filing for divorce, Burruss and Tucker were spotted together celebrating their daughter Blaze’s 6th birthday, putting on a supportive display for their family. Burruss also confirmed that the family intends to spend Thanksgiving together, signaling that while the marriage is ending, the family unit remains intact.
A Decade of ‘RHOA’ Romance
Burruss and Tucker’s relationship has been a central storyline on The Real Housewives of Atlanta since they met in 2011, when Tucker was a line producer for the show. They married in April 2014 in a lavish “Coming to America” themed wedding, despite initial opposition from Burruss’s mother, Mama Joyce.
Over the last decade, fans watched them build an empire together, launching restaurants, producing plays, and raising their blended family, including their two shared children, Ace and Blaze, and Burruss’s daughter Riley and Tucker’s daughter Kaela from previous relationships.
As Burruss steps into this new chapter, she has asked for “privacy, grace, and understanding” while she navigates the transition.
