Justin Baldoni Seeks Marvel’s Help in Blake Lively Lawsuit

Justin Baldoni Lawsuit Marvel Involvement

In an intriguing twist to an ongoing legal dispute, Justin Baldoni’s legal team is now calling for Marvel Studios and Disney executives to intervene in the controversy surrounding Baldoni, Blake Lively, and alleged parallels between Baldoni and the fictional character “Nicepool” from Deadpool & Wolverine.

The Origins of the Controversy

The situation gained traction when social media users theorized that the character “Nicepool” in Deadpool & Wolverine was inspired by Justin Baldoni, who directed and co-starred alongside Blake Lively in It Ends With Us. The theory became so widespread that Baldoni’s legal team, led by attorney Bryan Freedman, felt compelled to address the matter publicly.

The theory claims specific scenes in Deadpool & Wolverine mirror personal and professional aspects of Baldoni’s life. For example, “Nicepool” has dialogue referencing feminism and a podcast, elements that seem to reflect Baldoni’s advocacy for feminism and his podcast persona. A deleted scene in the film allegedly adds fuel to the fire, further cementing the social media-fueled belief that “Nicepool” was designed to mock Baldoni.

Baldoni’s Counteraction

Baldoni’s lawyers have taken formal steps to involve Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and Disney CEO Bob Iger. On January 7, they issued a litigation hold letter, requesting that Disney and Marvel Studios preserve documents and data related to the development of the “Nicepool” character.

The letter specifically seeks:

  • Documents about the creation of “Nicepool.”
  • Communications tied to the character’s storylines and scenes.
  • Any records indicating deliberate attempts to mock, harass, or intimidate Baldoni through the character.

This action is part of a broader legal battle between Baldoni and Lively that has become increasingly public.

Escalating Legal Disputes

The rift between Baldoni and Lively began during the press tours for It Ends With Us and Deadpool & Wolverine, where the two openly disagreed on creative decisions. The tension culminated last December when Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni, citing allegations of misconduct on the set of It Ends With Us.

In response, Baldoni countersued Lively and The New York Times, alleging that both Lively and the publication intentionally misrepresented text messages to support her claims.

The Social Media Spiral

The legal disputes were already contentious, but social media amplified the situation. Fans quickly latched onto the alleged connections between Baldoni and “Nicepool,” dissecting lines from the film, such as “It’s okay, I identify as a feminist” and comments about post-pregnancy fitness. These parallels heightened public interest and added pressure to the ongoing legal proceedings.

Current Status and Next Steps

Neither Disney nor Marvel has officially commented on the matter, and both sides of the lawsuit have remained silent since the litigation letter was sent. With the legal battle expanding to involve entertainment giants like Marvel and Disney, this high-profile dispute shows no signs of quieting down.

For now, the public—and Hollywood—await further developments in what has become one of the most closely watched lawsuits in recent memory. Whether this case will reveal deeper issues in the entertainment industry or merely serve as a sensational Hollywood feud remains to be seen.
