More than a year after his health scare, Jamie Foxx is sharing details about the mysterious illness that left him in a coma for three weeks. In a video shared on social media, the Academy Award winner recounted his April 2023 experience to a group in downtown Phoenix, Arizona.
“April 11 last year, [I had] a bad headache, asked my boy for an Advil,” Foxx began. “I was gone for 20 days. I don’t remember anything.”
He added, “I was in Atlanta, my sister and daughter took me to the first doctor. He said nah, gave me a cortisone shot. Next doctor said, ‘Something’s going on up there.’ I won’t say it on camera.”
Hospitalization and Recovery
Jamie was hospitalized last April following an undisclosed “medical complication” while filming his upcoming Netflix movie Back in Action with Cameron Diaz in Atlanta. His daughter, Corrine Foxx, announced the illness on Instagram the next day, noting he was “already on his way to recovery.”

A month later, Corrine shared that her father had “been out of the hospital for weeks” and was even “playing pickleball.”
First Public Appearance
In December, during his first appearance since the hospitalization, Jamie Foxx opened up about his experience while accepting the Vanguard Award at the Critics Choice Association’s Celebration of Cinema & Television Honoring Black, Latino & AAPI Achievements.
Foxx revealed, “I couldn’t actually walk six months prior. I want to thank everybody. I’ve been through something, I’ve been through some things.”
