A Storied Career

Over the next 13 years, Thompson claimed 15 worldwide tournament victories, including 11 on the LPGA Tour.

Her most notable win was at the 2014 Kraft Nabisco Championship, where she became the second-youngest major winner in women’s history.

Despite this being her only major victory, Thompson consistently performed at a high level, securing 19 top-10 finishes at majors and eight finishes inside the top three.

A memorable moment was her runner-up finish at the 2017 Chevron Championship, where a controversial four-shot penalty impacted her playoff chances.

Thompson has also made significant strides outside of the LPGA. Last fall, she became the seventh woman to play on the PGA Tour, narrowly missing the cut at the Shriners Children’s Open.

Her international presence includes representing the United States in six Solheim Cups, compiling a 9–7–7 record, and participating in the 2016 and 2021 Summer Olympics.

Impact Beyond the Golf Course

LPGA Commissioner Mollie Marcoux Samaan lauded Thompson’s influence beyond her competitive achievements.

“Lexi’s impact extends far beyond the golf course,” Samaan said. “She embodies the spirit and dedication of our founders—always showing up and engaging intentionally to help further the growth and impact of the LPGA.

She is beloved by fans, consistently seen signing autographs and interacting with them no matter the result that day.”

Thompson’s openness about her mental health struggles has also resonated with many.

She withdrew from the 2018 Women’s British Open, citing emotional and mental exhaustion, and has admitted to not feeling “100 percent” healthy in recent years, which has affected her performance.

A Personal Touch

Thompson’s connection with her fans is a cornerstone of her career. Known for signing autographs as Alexis Thompson, a tradition she started in her first U.S.

Women’s Open, she has always prioritized making personal connections with her supporters.

Her mother instilled in her the value of brightening someone’s day, a principle that has guided Thompson throughout her career.

In October 2023, Thompson exemplified this by becoming the seventh woman to compete on the PGA Tour, participating in the Shriners Children’s Open.

Her goal was not just to compete but to inspire. “If I can leave here inspiring others, especially the Shriners kids, that’s what it’s all about,” Thompson said.

Looking Forward

As she prepares to step away from a full professional schedule, Thompson reflects on her journey and looks forward to spending more time with family and friends.

“While it is never easy to say goodbye, it is indeed time,” Thompson said. “At the end of 2024, I will be stepping away from a full professional golf schedule.

I’m excited to enjoy the remainder of the year as there are still goals I want to accomplish. I look forward to the next chapter of my life.”

Her commitment to the sport remains unwavering. Thompson plans to continue contributing to golf and inspiring the next generation.

As she competes in her final U.S. Women’s Open at Lancaster Country Club, memories of her 17 previous appearances will surely flood her mind, marking a poignant moment in her illustrious career.

Legacy of Lexi Thompson

Lexi Thompson’s name is synonymous with excellence and perseverance in women’s golf.

Her career has been a blend of record-breaking achievements, personal challenges, and unwavering dedication to her fans and the sport.

As she embarks on this new chapter, the golf world reflects on her contributions and looks forward to her continued influence off the course.

Her departure from the LPGA Tour marks the end of an era but also the beginning of a new legacy that will inspire countless young golfers for years to come.

The remaining months of 2024 will be a celebration of her career, with fans and fellow players cherishing every moment Thompson spends on the course.
